Mental health day ✨🍵
I desperately needed a mental health day today!!
Sooo I called out of work. At first I felt terrible, but then realized, I don't need to carry that alone. To be the best to my patients when I'm at work, I MUST care for myself first. I know that probably sounds selfish to some people, and to that I say.
And that's how burnout starts, with one unhappy person, overly stressing shift, & an unrecognized MUCH NEEDED mental health day, at a time. 🌿🤍
Taking a mental health day, especially when you feel that initial pang of guilt, can be a game-changer. I know because I've been there! It’s not just about stepping away from work; it’s about actively engaging in activities that nourish your emotional well-being. For me, creating a slow morning ritual has become crucial. Instead of rushing, I allow myself to wake up naturally, savoring the quiet moments before the day truly begins. One of my favorite rituals is making a comforting drink, like a strawberry matcha latte. There’s something incredibly soothing about the process – the gentle whisking, the vibrant color, and that unique earthy taste paired with a hint of sweetness. It’s a small act, but it engages my senses and brings me fully into the present moment, which is a powerful form of emotional self-care. It’s an idea I picked up that truly makes a difference. Beyond those quiet moments, I’ve found other emotional self-care ideas that help me navigate demanding times and prevent burnout. Journaling, for instance, has been a lifesaver. Just getting my thoughts and feelings down on paper, without judgment, helps me process emotions I might otherwise bottle up. It’s like having a silent, understanding friend who listens without interruption. Another effective strategy is embracing gentle movement. It doesn't have to be an intense workout; even a short walk outside, breathing in fresh air and observing the world around me, can shift my mood dramatically. Connecting with nature, even through a window, can be incredibly grounding. When I feel overwhelmed, a few minutes of mindful breathing or simply stepping away from screens to look at a plant can work wonders. Setting boundaries is another huge part of emotional self-care, and it directly relates to why I took that mental health day. Learning to say "no" or to prioritize my own needs without feeling selfish has been a journey. It’s about recognizing that I can't pour from an empty cup, and taking time for myself isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for me to be my best self, both personally and professionally. This might mean turning down an extra commitment or simply carving out dedicated quiet time. Finally, remember that emotional self-care isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. What works for one person might not work for another, and what works today might not work tomorrow. It’s about experimenting and finding what truly resonates with your soul. Sometimes it's a creative outlet, other times it's deep conversation with a loved one, or simply allowing yourself to rest without guilt. The key is to listen to your body and your emotions, and give yourself the compassion and care you deserve. Don't wait until burnout hits; make emotional self-care a regular, non-negotiable part of your life.
The slow pouring is my favorite!! 😍🔥
