Please tell me this book gets better.

Without spoilers, please tell me this book gets better. It is currently sitting on my bookshelf unfinished. (I am on Chapter 12.) I enjoyed the first one, but I cannot make myself read this one for some reason. I don’t want to abandon the series, but it’s a struggle.
