The Job That Made Me Love Nursing Again
After burning out on the floor, I didn’t know if nursing was still for me until I found the OR. I used to really struggle with the lack of structure that working on the floor gave. Different patients every night with different needs, sometimes staffing was short & there was no rhyme or rhythm to my job, which I quickly learned was not my niche.
However, working in the OR with all-day shift structure means no chaotic handoffs or late-night charting, and for the first time in a while, I don’t start my day with anxiety. I actually enjoy showing up, being present, and working alongside a team that functions surgeons, anesthesia, techs, everyone. We each have a role, and when it clicks, it’s the kind of flow that reminds me why I went into healthcare in the first place. The environment is intense, but focused and I finally feel like I have balance again. This role gave me back my energy and my love for nursing.
