All outfits included in the photos are by the designer she made herself, Juana Azul ❤️
it was so much fun doing this photoshoot for the holidays at my local studio! A designer, hairstylist and although I did my own makeup, a mua was onsite for this, all voluntary of course.

... Read moreHaving just finished my holiday photoshoot, I'm bursting with excitement to share even more about how to make your own festive pictures absolutely pop! It was such a blast working with the talented Juana Azul, whose designs really brought the vision to life. But beyond the gorgeous clothes, so much of a successful shoot comes down to confidence and knowing how to work your angles.
As someone who loves exploring different looks, I’ve learned that a great photoshoot isn’t just about the outfit; it’s about how you feel in it and how you carry yourself. For this holiday shoot, I really focused on poses that made me feel confident and elegant, especially in those stunning Juana Azul pieces. For instance, when I was in the long-sleeved red dress, I found that angling my body slightly towards the camera, rather than straight on, created a more dynamic and flattering silhouette. It’s all about finding that subtle twist or lean that enhances your natural shape. I also discovered how powerful holding something can be – like leaning back with a strap to create that 'snatched' waist effect, or simply using a wine glass or disco ball as a prop to give your hands something natural to do. It instantly makes a pose feel more authentic and less stiff.
Then there was the playful black and white polka dot outfit! That one encouraged more movement and playful energy. When playfully entangled in colorful Christmas lights, it wasn't about a rigid stance, but about capturing that joyful, slightly whimsical moment. And for the more 'boss' or 'Gatsby-inspired' looks, it was about channeling an attitude – sitting confidently, maybe with a martini glass, and letting your eyes convey the story. Don't be afraid to experiment with props like pearls; they can really elevate a simple pose into something chic and classic, giving that 'White Christmas' feel.
Beyond the poses, the whole experience of preparing for a shoot is a huge part of the fun. I always recommend having a clear vision or mood board beforehand. Even if you're doing your own makeup like I did, having a general idea of the look, whether it's glamorous or cozy, helps immensely. Working with a designer like Juana Azul, who creates such unique pieces, really inspires you to bring the character of the outfit to life. And don't underestimate the power of a good team – a hairstylist, or even just having supportive friends around, makes a world of difference in boosting your confidence and allowing you to truly shine. That’s why having fun with a friend, as we did in some of the shots on the orange couch against the silver tinsel backdrop, creates such genuine smiles and natural interactions.
Lighting and your surroundings are your best friends in a photoshoot. The silver tinsel backdrop was fantastic for creating a festive, bright vibe, especially when paired with a disco ball to catch the light. But sometimes, a softer, more intimate setting works wonders. Reclining on a comfy chair in a dimly lit room with vintage lamps, surrounded by bookshelves, created such a beautiful, moody atmosphere. It just goes to show you can find inspiration for a stunning shot almost anywhere, whether it's a vibrant Christmas tree or a subtle corner with good lighting. Remember to utilize your environment – whether it’s holding onto something for stability in a trolley setting or just letting the backdrop tell part of your story.
I hope these deeper insights from my holiday photoshoot journey help inspire your next creative project! It’s all about embracing the moment, feeling fabulous in your own skin, and having a blast with the process. What are your favorite posing tricks for holiday shoots? I'd love to hear them!
