Go Here Instead of Cannon Beach
Want to avoid the crowds of Cannon Beach? Head further south to Rockaway Beach.
While your here, stop by Pronto Pup, known for creating the first ever corn dog! Hand dipped and open daily.
Walk miles and miles of beach. Even better, rent a cabin located on the beach. Bring your dogs, a blanket, and watch the sunset.
If you're eyeing the Oregon Coast but want to escape the hustle and bustle of popular spots like Cannon Beach, let me tell you about Rockaway Beach! It's located just about 25-30 miles south of Cannon Beach, making it an easy and scenic drive down Highway 101. I found it to be the perfect 'lesser known Oregon beach' experience, offering all the beauty without the overwhelming crowds you might find elsewhere. Beyond just walking the miles of sandy beach, which is a joy in itself, there's so much more to discover. My pups absolutely loved being able to roam freely – yes, it's incredibly dog-friendly here! And finding free parking was a huge bonus, especially compared to other popular coastal towns. We even enjoyed a cozy beach fire one evening, watching the sunset, which is such a unique experience that many other beaches don't allow. One of the highlights for me was the 'gorgeous seastack' views, especially the iconic Twin Rocks. While not as famous as Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, they are equally stunning and provide fantastic photo opportunities. Speaking of rocks, if you're interested in marine life, checking the 'Rockaway Beach tide' schedule is a must! During 'low tide', you can explore tide pools around the smaller rock formations, discovering starfish, anemones, and other fascinating creatures. It's a magical experience, but always remember to respect the marine environment and watch your step. And you absolutely cannot visit without stopping at Pronto Pup! Seriously, for a classic, hand-dipped corn dog, it's a must-try – they even claim to have invented it! Beyond that, the town might be small, but it has a charming, laid-back vibe. You'll find quaint antique shops, local eateries, and a few spots to grab essentials. If you're planning a longer stay, renting a cabin right on the beach, as mentioned in the original post, is a dream come true. Imagine waking up to the sound of waves every morning! For anyone looking for a more relaxed, authentic Oregon Coast experience, away from the typical tourist traps, Rockaway Beach is a fantastic choice. It offers beautiful scenery, a welcoming atmosphere, and plenty of space to breathe and truly enjoy the natural beauty of the 'beach Oregon coast'. I'd definitely recommend making the trip!

Rockaway is stuuuunning!!!
