How Interval Running Changed Everything for Me (In Just One Week)
A week ago, I couldn’t even imagine calling myself a runner.
I started with 30-second running intervals because that’s what my body could do. (Even at that, 30 seconds seemed too long.) Instead of waiting until I was “good enough,” I decided to start where I was.
In just one week, my pace has improved, I’ve gone farther, and my confidence has grown. More importantly, I’ve proven to myself that small, consistent steps really do add up.
This journey is about so much more than running. It’s about becoming healthier, keeping up with my kids, and continuing the life I’ve built after losing over 100+ pounds.
My long-term goal is to run the Beach to Bay Relay, and this is where that story begins.
If you’re thinking about starting, this is your reminder that you don’t have to be fast—you just have to begin. 🤍

Starting interval running was a game changer for me, especially as someone who wasn't a runner before and had a history of significant weight loss. One of the key benefits I found with interval running is that it allowed me to build endurance gradually without overwhelming my body or feeling defeated. Alternating between short bursts of running and walking gave me the much-needed breaks to catch my breath and recover but kept me moving consistently. I began with very modest goals—running for 30 seconds followed by 1 to 2 minutes walking, repeated several rounds. Even though 30 seconds felt like a challenge initially, this manageable approach made it easier to overcome mental barriers and kept me motivated to keep going. Tracking my progress was encouraging too—over just one week, I noticed improvements in my pacing and distance. Consistency proved crucial. Rather than focusing on speed or distance, I concentrated on sticking to my routine, which helped build my confidence. This shift in mindset—from needing to be “good enough” before starting to embracing where I was at physically—made a huge difference. It helped me see running not as a daunting task but as an enjoyable journey. What truly makes this journey meaningful is the bigger picture of health and lifestyle transformation. After losing over 100 pounds, running wasn't just about fitness—it was about regaining energy to keep up with my kids and living a full life. The Beach to Bay Relay represents more than a race; it’s a symbol of my progress and the future I’m creating. For anyone considering starting, my advice is simple: don’t wait to be perfect or fast. Begin where you are. Interval running can be tailored to any fitness level, and its repeatable, simple structure helps prevent burnout while improving endurance and strength. Remember, every small run and walk adds up to substantial progress—one step, one interval at a time.

Praying I get this kind of motivation soon because this is exactly how I feel now 😭
