Colorado Hike Ratings: Lovell Gulch Trailhead
Lovell Gulch Trail — an easy, lowkey fall hike in Woodland Park just under 1.5 hours from Denver ⛰️
Pros 😬
• plenty of free parking
• easy-to-moderate trail
• lots of mule deer spottings 🦌
• a few really beautiful patches of aspens that are still holding on to their color 🍂
• It’s kid-friendly, not too crowded 👶
• great option if you want a relaxed weekend hike without the drive to the high country 🚗
Cons 🥲
• the initial climb doesn’t offer the most scenic views
• there’s quite a bit of dog poop on the trail (whoever’s leaving bags behind—jail4u) 💩🙃
• there are a lot of side/accessory paths, so make sure to check AllTrails and keep an eye out for markers ‼️
• Also noticed a lot of dogs off leash, so just something to be aware of if you’re bringing yours 🐶

I went on October 5, 2025, and while the aspens are definitely starting to thin out, there were still a few great spots for photos if you look for them 📸
