We survived this accident 14 years ago today. March 23rd 2012
Today is the 14th anniversary of this horrific accident. God was our savior I thank him everyday for watching over me my grandson, my oldest was 12 years old my granddaughter 8 years old and my youngest grandson 3 years old.
I have no memory of what happened I regained consciousness only for a brief moment after the accident then passed out again while they used the jaws of life to get us out of the car. I regained consciousness just for a moment in the life flight helicopter.
My oldest grandson was ok, other than he thought I was dead my granddaughter had a broken leg my youngest grandson had a severe head injury. He was unconscious for three days. On the third day he woke up and said he was hungry. Thank God the Lord saved him. He wasn’t expected to live.
Today we’re all active and healthy.
Reflecting on a life-altering accident is never easy, but sharing my family's experience has been a source of both healing and inspiration. I vividly remember the initial chaos after the crash—even though my memory of the event is mostly lost, the moments that followed were filled with fear, uncertainty, and the incredible strength of loved ones and first responders. The use of the "jaws of death" to free us was a terrifying but necessary step in our rescue. One of the most challenging parts was watching my youngest grandson fight through a severe head injury. Three days of unconsciousness felt like an eternity, and hearing him say he was hungry when he finally woke was a miraculous and relieving moment for us all. It really reinforced my belief in the power of hope and prayer. In my experience, these situations show us how precious life is and how fragile—but also resilient—we can be when supported by family and faith. Our journey since then has involved ongoing care, physical therapy, and emotional support. Each year, as the anniversary comes around, I’m reminded not only of what we went through but also of how far we've come. Today, all of us are active and healthy, a testament to perseverance and the kindness of people who helped us along the way. If anyone reading this is going through their own difficult times after an accident, I encourage you to hold onto hope and cherish every small victory. Sometimes survival is just the beginning of a new chapter filled with gratitude and strength. Keep faith, lean on your loved ones, and don’t be afraid to seek help—it can make all the difference.
