Dark Skin Lifestyle Vloggers Are NOT Winning

This is a difficult topic to address, but it's time to address the elephant in the room: Why aren’t we, as a community of dark-skinned girls, supporting other dark-skinned lifestyle vloggers on YouTube?

It’s puzzling and frankly, disappointing, to see girls who look like me rally around mixed-race or racially ambiguous influencers while leaving our fellow dark-skinned creators in the shadows. Don’t get me wrong—I support good content, no matter the creator's race or ethnicity. However, the engagement gap between dark-skinned and light-skinned lifestyle vloggers is glaring and quite sad.

We've seen countless threads and forums debating this issue. Is it self-hatred? Colorism? The algorithm? While we could point fingers at many factors, the truth is that we, as dark-skinned Black women, need to uplift each other. This means continuous engagement and support for content creators who look like us.

I love the work of Allyiahs Face, Kirah Omnique, Briana, and Tiera Walker on YouTube. Yet, why aren’t there more dark-skinned creators making luxury lifestyle content? We produce quality content, post consistently, and promote ourselves, but we can't force anyone to watch us. Maybe some have burned out from lack of growth and support, leading them to quit.

Is there really space for us to thrive on YouTube?

Allyiah Face mentioned in one of her chit-chat videos that her success isn’t just only because of her light skin or BBL (acknowledging that it does play factor). However, she noticed that many of her supporters are dark-skinned women. She asked her subscribers why they don’t support other dark-skinned women the same way they support her—a great question!

The bottom line is, we can't be upset when we don’t see ourselves on influencer brand trips or when there aren’t enough dark-skinned girls doing luxury lifestyle content. The support has to be ongoing. We need to find and support small dark-skinned lifestyle vloggers so they can grow and become the luxury lifestyle vloggers we want to watch.

So, ask yourself: How many dark-skinned lifestyle vloggers are you watching compared to the light-skinned ones?

There's plenty of room and opportunity for more of us to succeed. Support is free, so why not give it to someone who looks like you as well?

My channel is linked in my bio and I’m also doing vlogmas 💛

... Read moreHey beautiful people! Following up on our important chat about dark-skinned lifestyle vloggers on YouTube, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what we can do to really make a difference. It's honestly disheartening to see the struggle, especially when the text 'Dark Skin Girls Aren't winning on YouTube' pops up so often in conversations. This isn't just about viewership; it's about representation, opportunity, and creating a space where all our stories and aesthetics are celebrated. One of the biggest challenges faced by dark-skinned content creators, beyond what we discussed about colorism, is visibility in the wider digital landscape. Algorithms, while complex, can sometimes amplify content that fits existing popular trends, which historically haven't always centered Black women, especially those with darker complexions. This can lead to a vicious cycle: less visibility means fewer views, fewer views mean less engagement, and less engagement means fewer brand opportunities. It's not just about getting noticed; it's about getting paid and being seen as valuable by brands and advertisers. So, what are some practical steps we, as viewers, can take? It's more than just a quick like. Engage Authentically: Leave thoughtful comments, share videos on your social media, and watch the entire video if you can. This sends strong signals to YouTube that the content is valuable. Subscribe and Hit the Bell: This ensures you don't miss new content and helps creators grow their subscriber count, which is crucial for milestones and brand deals. Financial Support (If You Can): Many creators have Patreon, Ko-fi, or even super chats during live streams. Even a small contribution can make a huge difference in helping them invest in equipment or editing. Spread the Word Offline: Tell your friends, family, and online communities about creators you love. Word-of-mouth is still incredibly powerful. For my fellow dark-skinned creators out there, I know it can feel like an uphill battle. But please don't give up! Your voice, your style, and your perspective are so important. Find Your Niche & Collaborate: While the desire for luxury lifestyle content is strong, don't be afraid to explore unique niches where your voice can truly shine. Collaborate with other dark-skinned creators – strength in numbers! Community Building: Focus on building a loyal, engaged community. These are your true supporters who will stick with you through algorithm changes. Diversify Platforms: While YouTube is key, explore other platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or even podcasting to reach wider audiences and diversify your content. Be Resilient: There will be discouraging moments. Remember why you started and the impact you want to make. It's about creating a sustainable ecosystem where dark-skinned influencers can not only survive but *thrive*. We deserve to see ourselves reflected in every facet of lifestyle content, from luxury travel to everyday vlogs. Let's make sure the next time someone searches for 'dark skinned influencer latest,' they find a vibrant, well-supported community of successful creators! Let's change that narrative of 'Dark Skin Girls Aren't winning on YouTube' together. We have the power to uplift each other and challenge the existing norms. What other ways do you support your favorite dark-skinned creators?

This is absolutely true. Ppl love playing color blind. The 3 you named and anyone who looks like them get better brand deals and support due to skin color. Don’t matter if they’re entertaining or not cause Briana is BORING ASF!
