Bourbon & Brown Sugar Salmon Marinade - Recipe
Bourbon & Brown Sugar Salmon Marinade
Ingredients
2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
2 Tablespoons of Dark Brown Sugar
1 Teaspoon of Minced Garlic
1 Teaspoon of Ginger
2 Tablespoons of Bourbon
*Taste first when blended. If you want your bourbon flavor stronger, add another tablespoon.
1 Tablespoon of low-sodium Soy Sauce
1/2 Tablespoon of Toasted Sesame Seeds
1 Tablespoon of Honey
1 Tablespoon of Lemon Juice (fresh preferred)
1-2 lbs Salmon Filet
***I double or triple this, so that I have extra to brush over the top when filling or extra in general to freeze for future use. This freezes well!
Mix all ingredients and place your salmon in a marinade bag or containers with the marinade. Let it marinade overnight (at least 12-24 hours is ideal). For best taste and results, grill on a cedar plank (I soak mine overnight or 12-24 hours).
Delicious! Enjoy!
If you're looking to elevate your salmon dishes, this bourbon and brown sugar marinade offers a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors that complement the natural richness of the fish. The combination of dark brown sugar and bourbon provides a deep, caramelized sweetness, while the minced garlic and fresh ginger inject a subtle kick and warmth into the marinade. Marinating your salmon overnight, ideally for 12 to 24 hours, allows the flavors to deeply penetrate the flesh, resulting in tender, juicy, and flavorful bites. Using low-sodium soy sauce helps maintain a balanced saltiness, preventing the marinade from overpowering the fish. The addition of toasted sesame seeds adds a pleasant nuttiness and a subtle crunch when grilled. For the best grilling experience, soaking a cedar plank for 12 to 24 hours imbues your salmon with a mild smoky aroma while preventing the fish from sticking or drying out. This method also enhances the tenderness and imparts a beautiful charred flavor. If bourbon flavor is preferred stronger, you can increase its amount reasonably, but be cautious not to overwhelm the marinade's delicate balance. Brushing extra marinade over the salmon while grilling helps maintain moisture and reinforces the taste. The marinade's ability to freeze well makes it easy to prepare in advance for future meals, ensuring you always have a delicious, homemade option on hand. Adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice just before serving brightens the dish with a hint of acidity, balancing the sweet and savory components. This marinade also pairs wonderfully with other fish varieties or even grilled chicken, offering versatile dinner ideas that are both satisfying and easy to prepare at home. Experiment with the marinade by adjusting ingredients like ginger, garlic, or honey to suit your taste. This recipe encourages creativity while ensuring a consistently tasty outcome. Just remember that quality fresh ingredients, proper marinating time, and grilling technique are key to achieving the best results that will impress your family and friends.
