... Read moreEmbarking on a cut flower garden has been an exciting and fulfilling experience for me. One important lesson I’ve learned is the value of selecting the right flowers that thrive well in your climate and soil conditions. Since I used Zinnias, Cosmos, Dahlias, and Sunflowers—all popular choices for cut flowers—it’s vital to ensure they get plenty of sunlight, as most of these varieties love full sun exposure for at least six hours a day. I also discovered that good soil preparation is a cornerstone of success. Mixing in rich organic matter or compost when planting helps provide essential nutrients and promotes moisture retention, which is critical during the growing phase. Watering consistently but without over-saturating the soil keeps the roots healthy; it’s a balance that takes some observation and adjustment. Another tip I found useful is to monitor your garden regularly for pests and diseases. Early detection allows for natural or gentle interventions, keeping your flowers vibrant and strong. When it’s time to harvest, cutting flowers early in the morning when they are well-hydrated results in longer-lasting blooms. Lastly, documenting your journey and being open to learning—especially when you’re just starting—makes the process more enjoyable. Don’t hesitate to seek advice from fellow gardeners or online communities, as shared experiences can offer invaluable insights. Growing a cut flower garden is truly rewarding, not only beautifying your space but also providing fresh bouquets to brighten your home or share with others. Keep experimenting, stay patient, and most importantly, have fun nurturing your floral dreams!

The easiest raised garden beds
The easiest (and cheapest) large garden beds I’ve made. For one garden bed you will need: -2 10x2x12 boards - 8 concrete retaining wall blocks That’s it. I cut the boards into 8 foot pieces which left me with 2 4 foot pieces for the width. Lined them up In the concrete blocks and voila.
