Foggy hikes through the forest 🌲🌲🌲

2/19 Edited to

... Read moreOh, you guys, if you haven't experienced a hike through a misty forest, especially here in the Pacific Northwest, you are truly missing out! There's just something incredibly ethereal and peaceful about it that completely recharges my soul. When the fog rolls in, it transforms familiar trails into something out of a fairytale, making every step feel like an adventure. For me, the best time to hit these trails is definitely in the early morning. That's when you get that 'misty forest trail morning light' effect – the rays of sun trying to pierce through the thick fog create these stunning, almost divine, light beams. It's truly a photographer's dream, but even without a camera, the memory of seeing that light filter through the ancient trees stays with you. The air is so crisp and clean, often carrying the fresh scent of damp earth and pine. The sounds are muffled, making the forest feel even more secluded and intimate. If you're thinking of trying a misty forest hike, here are a few tips I've picked up. First, layers are your best friend! Even if it feels mild, the dampness can make you chilly, so a waterproof outer layer is essential. Good grip on your hiking shoes is also a must, as trails can get a bit slippery. I always pack a small thermos with something warm – hot tea or coffee tastes extra amazing when you're surrounded by cool mist. What makes these 'misty landscapes' so special? It’s the way the mist highlights details you might normally overlook. Every moss-covered branch, every fern frond, seems to glow with moisture. You might even spot wildlife that's usually shy, enjoying the quiet morning. I love looking for spiderwebs adorned with tiny dewdrops – they sparkle like diamonds! While I adore my local spots, finding those 'misty forest paths' is often about checking the weather and just going for it. Look for trails with dense canopy cover and proximity to water sources, as these conditions often encourage mist formation, giving you that 'palisades at hickory creek' or 'mckenzie preserve trails' vibe. These types of locations are perfect for experiencing true misty magic. Don't let a little fog deter you, embrace it! It’s not just a walk; it’s an immersion into a truly magical, quiet world. It’s my absolute favorite kind of 'rain' and 'nature' experience, and I hope you get to discover the enchantment of a misty PNW forest hike soon!

A stroll through the forest in late autumn 🌧️🍂
There’s something bittersweet about a late autumn walk on the last rainy day before the trees are bare. 🌧️🍂🍁 The air feels sharper, almost as if the season itself knows its time is fleeting. There’s a quiet stillness to the forest on a late autumn day, just before winter settles in. Some trees s

Forest Mist
She’s finally finished. Took forever to let her dry so I could add in the glazes of shadow and highlights. I really wanted to capture these rays of light through the mist and fog. It turned out better than I hoped for first time trying to do this. #forestart #oilpainting #foggyforest #artjou
