Can we talk about baby hairs?

2024/10/24 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, let's really get into it! My original post just scratched the surface, but I've been thinking a lot about our tiny little forehead strands – baby hairs! It seems like everyone has an opinion on them, right? Are they a stylish statement or something we should try to tame away? Let me share some of what I've learned and what works for me. First off, 'what is baby hair?' For those who might be new to this, baby hairs are those fine, short, wispy hairs along your hairline, often around the forehead, temples, and nape of the neck. They're typically shorter and finer than the rest of your hair, and yes, everyone has them to some degree! Now, about the big question: 'Do baby hairs make or break a hairstyle? Are they childish?' Honestly, I think it totally depends on how you style them and your personal vibe! What used to be seen as a sign of new growth or just unruly strands has evolved into a beautiful art form. For many, especially within the Black community, styling baby hairs (often called 'edges' or 'swoops') is a deeply rooted cultural practice, a way to frame the face and add polish to any hairstyle, from sleek buns to intricate braids. This is why you often see 'why do Black women have baby hairs' as a common search – it's a testament to the cultural significance and mastery of this styling technique. But it's not just a specific community anymore! The trend has gone mainstream, and I've seen 'white girl with baby hairs' searches pop up, showing how widely accepted and admired the look has become. It's truly about embracing your natural hairline and using those delicate strands to enhance your look. So, how do you get those gorgeous, 'swooped baby hairs' or 'face framing baby hairs' that look so good in all those 'baby hair pic' examples? It's all about technique and the right tools! You'll need a good edge control gel or pomade, a fine-tooth comb, and maybe an edge brush or even an old toothbrush. For classic 'swoop baby hairs,' start by isolating a small section of your baby hairs near your temples or forehead. Apply a tiny bit of edge control to your brush. Then, gently comb the hair down and use a curving motion to create a 'swoop' or 'wave' design. You can create multiple swoops or connect them into a continuous wavy pattern. The key is light handedness and building up the product slowly. If you have 'long baby hairs on your forehead,' don't despair! You can still create amazing styles. Instead of trying to force a super tight swoop, you can go for a softer, more blended look. Use your edge control to guide them into gentle waves that seamlessly blend into your longer hair. For those with 'curly baby hairs on hairline,' embrace that texture! Instead of trying to straighten them, use a softer hold product to define their natural curl pattern and sweep them gracefully. Sometimes, a simple, delicate curl framing your face is even more stunning. And for the question, 'baby hair on adults?' Absolutely! I truly believe styled baby hairs can elevate an adult hairstyle, adding sophistication and a touch of artistry. It’s definitely not childish if done with intention and skill. Think polished, not perfect. The carefully styled baby hairs framing the face, as you often see in close-up selfies, can really complete a look, whether it's for a special event or just your everyday slay. It’s about intricately styled baby hairs becoming a part of your overall aesthetic. Remember, practice makes perfect. Don't be afraid to experiment with different patterns and products. Your baby hairs are unique to you, and finding your signature style is part of the fun! I'd love to hear your go-to tips for managing and styling your edges!

how do we not talk about this national park more!?
Ok ok, I know Olympic National Park is fairly well known, but the fact that it’s not in most people’s top three national park list is an absolute CRIME! Don’t get me wrong, I love Yellowstone and The Grand Canyon, but you will never get as much biodiversity in one place as Olympic National Park.
