What would you do in this Situation?

I live in low income housing. And granted I can pay my rent by myself being that it is based off of my income, but I began dating my boyfriend of two years, almost 3 years now, and before we hit our two year mark he lived with his mom before but she moved to North Carolina and I didn’t know how to tell him I didn’t want him to move in. I felt like I would be such a bad girlfriend if I told him no plus he wouldn’t have anywhere else to go, but then I should’ve sat down and talk to him about my thoughts granted it’s my house I make the rules but I could’ve really used to extra help with income because I live pay check to paycheck. Now it’s been almost 2 year he’s lived with me and he got into a life changing accident that caused him to loose his job & struggle to pay his own bills let alone mine, I take care of everything all by my self and the stress he took off my shoulders just came back & some. All I ask was for him to pay half the rent which to him was pocket change to him now since he lost his job I’ve not only be left to pay everything by myself but also be behind because he never is able to hand me his half on time. Now I just want to say F it and not ask him for anything anymore and never rely on him but we are supposed to be a team but then he has his own stuff to worry about so idk what to do or how to go about this. I’m able to handle my bills by myself but this man is living in my house without paying a thing.

Now I just want someone’s advice because I do plan on having a talk with him but I don’t know how to start the conversation and I want to know your thoughts and opinions.

-He got his by a bus by the way.

... Read moreLiving together as a couple, especially in low-income housing, can be challenging, particularly when unexpected life events like an accident impact one partner's ability to contribute financially. It's important to approach such situations with empathy while maintaining clear communication to ensure both partners' needs and responsibilities are understood. When one partner experiences a life-changing accident and job loss, it creates a financial imbalance that can strain the relationship. A crucial first step is to initiate an open and honest conversation about expectations, financial contributions, and emotional support. Both partners should feel safe expressing their concerns without fear of judgment or resentment. To start this conversation, choose a calm, private moment and use “I” statements to focus on feelings and personal experiences, such as “I feel stressed handling all the financial responsibilities alone.” This approach helps avoid blame and defensiveness. Consider discussing options for financial planning, such as budget adjustments, seeking assistance programs, or exploring temporary work opportunities for the affected partner. Partnership means sharing both burdens and support. If your boyfriend is currently unable to contribute financially due to his accident, explore ways he can contribute in non-monetary ways, such as household chores or emotional support, to maintain a sense of teamwork. Additionally, professional guidance from a couples counselor or financial advisor can provide tools for navigating these challenges constructively. Maintaining respect for each other’s struggles, setting clear boundaries, and finding compromise are key to sustaining a healthy relationship under financial stress. Finally, remember that involving support networks like friends, family, or community resources can also alleviate some pressure. There are often housing assistance programs and employment rehabilitation services available for people recovering from accidents, which can improve your boyfriend’s ability to contribute again in the future. By addressing these difficult topics directly and compassionately, couples can strengthen their relationship and create a balanced, supportive home environment despite financial hardships.

I’m glad I read this because I thought it was about the Monstera 😂 but yes keep the line of communication open. I had similar experience with my boyfriend. He lives with me part time but I told asked him to help pay the BGE bill and make sure the recycling/trash out every week that he’s in the house, and any other things that I just can’t for him to do. He accepted it and so far so good. I do have a to remind him at times but we go through it. If he’s your partner the way he says he is, he will accept what you’re saying in a loving way and help out. Praying a miracle and turn around for you both 💛

I think if he doesn’t care how you feel why should you care how he feels, just be straight with him let him know you need help with the rent . Your not his mother 💁‍♀️.
