Use Standard Fonts: While Canva offers a huge selection, ATS systems prefer common and easily scannable fonts like Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, or Georgia. Avoid Graphics and Icons: As tempting as those little icons next to your skills are, they often confuse ATS software. The system might interpret them as images and completely skip over the text next to them. Keep your resume text-based. Keyword Optimization is Crucial: Read the job description carefully and identify key skills, qualifications, and responsibilities. Weave these exact keywords naturally into your resume. ATS programs are designed to flag resumes that contain these specific terms. Save as a Plain Text or Basic PDF: While Canva generates PDFs, sometimes the underlying structure can still be problematic.
