Let's MakeSourdough!

I started my sourdough journey yet again! I've failed many times before, but I really want to get it right this time. If you saw my post from a few days ago, this year for Christmas, I want to gift a homemade basket including fresh baked sourdough bread!

I made this sourdough with all purpose flour and I think I'm ready to take the step to switch to bread flour and do this 100% right!

With that said, this loaf still turned out amazing! I ended up making a garden bisque and using this loaf to make some grilled cheese sandwiches! 🥪 🤤

To start, select high-quality ingredients—opt for organic all-purpose or bread flour for the best results. Remember, the key to successful sourdough lies in your starter. A strong, well-fed starter will enhance your dough's rise and flavor. Take time to develop your starter; it can take up to a week or more to reach its peak vitality. For those new to sourdough, document your process to learn from each attempt, celebrating the successes while analyzing failures. Techniques like stretch and fold can improve dough structure, and don't be afraid to experiment with hydration levels to create your ideal loaf! Additionally, consider the environment as you bake. Sourdough thrives in warm, draft-free areas. During colder months, you might try creating a proofing box using your oven's light or a heating pad to maintain a stable temperature. With each bake, you’ll discover the nuances of timing, temperature, and hydration that suit your taste and climate. Remember, it's almost impossible to mess up sourdough entirely—each loaf tells a story and provides valuable lessons for your next bake. Enjoy the process and the delightful aromas that fill your home!
