Smoked Ribs 🤤
Smoking ribs is one of my favorite outdoor cooking experiences, and I love sharing some tips to help you get the best results at home. First, the key to perfectly smoked ribs is patience — low and slow is the way to go. I usually set my smoker to around 225°F and let the ribs cook for about 4 to 6 hours, depending on the size and thickness. Choosing the right rub can really make a difference. I like using a blend that combines paprika, brown sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a touch of cayenne for some heat. Applying the rub generously before smoking helps build up a flavorful bark on the ribs. Another trick that I find helpful is to spritz the ribs every hour or so with apple juice or a mix of apple cider vinegar and water. This helps keep the meat moist and adds a subtle sweetness. Once the ribs hit an internal temperature of around 195°F and the meat starts to pull back from the bones, I wrap them in foil with a little butter and honey for 30 minutes to an hour — this step, often called the ‘Texas crutch,’ steams the ribs and makes them super tender. After unwrapping, I like to brush the ribs with a smoky barbecue sauce and place them back on the smoker for 15 to 20 minutes to let the sauce set. Overall, the process requires some time and love, but the end result is tender, juicy, and flavorful smoked ribs that are perfect for any BBQ gathering. Don’t forget to experiment with different rubs and smoking woods like hickory or applewood to discover your perfect flavor combination.
