My future career ✍🏻💉🥽👩‍🔬

So, as a starter, I am currently an 11th grader in high school and have been thinking about a variety of career choices and routes I’ve always wanted to do; those careers were in either the medical field, realm of psychology, realm of law, and of other sciences and creatives. And as somebody who has been deeply thinking, and has been also offered advice, both wanted and unwanted, have decided my career finally. A phlebotomist.

To anybody who doesn’t know what a phlebotomist is; a phlebotomist is a medical professional who draws blood and other samples for medical testing, transfusions, or donations. And what that entails is blood draws, such as venipuncture and finger/heel pricks and sample collects in test tubs known as vacutainer tubes ( you know the ones with different colored tops that represent different tests and lab examinations? ) But also besides blood collection itself, we are responsible for sample preparation, transportation, and patient education and comforting.

I am going to attend Gadsden State Community College after I graduate high school next year and attend GSCC to do their Phlebotomy Training Program, then after I complete said program, I will go on to take the Phlebotomy Certification Exam, which is administered by the NHA and become certified in my home state of Alabama so that I can work in the local hospitals or clinics near me as an official Phlebotomist and healthcare provider.

As an aspiring phlebotomist, understanding the responsibilities of this role can provide insight into the medical field. Phlebotomists play a crucial role in patient care by collecting blood samples for diagnosis and treatment. They must exhibit both technical skills and emotional intelligence to ensure patients feel comfortable during the sample collection process. In addition to drawing blood, phlebotomists are responsible for educating patients about the procedures, preparing samples for testing, and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. It's important to have a solid background in human biology and to be comfortable working with medical equipment. Gadsden State Community College offers a well-structured Phlebotomy Training Program that prepares students for the Phlebotomy Certification Exam, a necessary step for employment in the healthcare industry. Successful completion of this program opens doors to various job opportunities in hospitals, clinics, and blood donation centers. As you explore career options in the medical field, consider the stability and demand for phlebotomists, especially with the continuous advancements in healthcare technology. Getting certified as a phlebotomist can be a rewarding step towards a fulfilling career in healthcare.
