My Dog Bowser

This is my dog Bowser (though I often refer to him as my child). He is a 1 year old American Bulldog/ Staffordshire mix. He comes first in my life ALWAYS. So, it made sense to put him as my first 🍋 post.

He was rescued by the shelter when someone called them to get him because he was tied up, neglected, and abused. He is absolutely scared of men and nervous of women.

I had been looking to get a new dog since I was feeling alone after losing my grandmother. I decided to go to the shelter because I heard it’s better.

They told me they had a sponsored adoption and I told them I would love meet him.

When he came out he was a little shy and very timid. He kept his head low the whole time I was petting him.

The guy at the shelter told me it was best to take him outside for one on one time and to let him know what I think of him.

I took him outside and little by little he was opening up. He started to kiss my face and wag his tail, and he came over to me when I called him.

I said “do you want me to adopt you?” And immediately he perked up and started jumping up and down and kissing my face more and more. He could barely contain his excitement. I said “see there’s that personality I knew you had. And now I definitely want you as my baby. You have yourself a home” and he was so excited about having a home to where even the guy at the shelter was shocked about the sudden change.

A couple days later after he got chipped and fixed I came back to the shelter with my parents to take him home.

Once again his head was low when he came out until he noticed it was me. Then he was the same as the last time I saw him. He ran up to me and started jumping around and kissing my face.

The car terrified him. It was tough talking him into getting in the car. Finally my dad picked him up and put him in the back seat with me. He eventually calmed down and laid beside me, keeping his distance.

It took some time for him to learn to cuddle. Like MONTHS. He would usually lay at my feet, stand on top of me, sit beside me, or half lay down on me with his back legs standing straight up and his front legs bent.

A few weeks ago he finally fully laid down on top of my chest to cuddle. It shocked me and made me a little emotional (which is why my face is weird in that picture). Now we cuddle every chance we can!
