Türkiye: how was it? 🇹🇷
After living in Türkiye for 4 years I have got amazing memories and moments I would love to share here. In this post I’d like just briefly to tell you that even one city’s areas can have absolutely different and unique impact on you. Sometimes it really feels like you’re traveling from one city to another. In these photos you see one of the most famous part of Izmir city: Asansör (which means “an elevator”). This location includes a real old fashioned elevator built by one caring neighbor for another neighbor. The whole area is known as a historical artist center of the city. One of the most popular artist related to this location is Dario Moreno. While I was visiting this location I was impressed by the blend of history, personal stories, green area of the city and cozy locations.
Living in Türkiye for several years gives a deep appreciation for how diverse even one city's neighborhoods can be. Asansör in Izmir is a perfect example of this. Nestled on a hillside, the historic elevator itself, built in the early 20th century, was not just a lifeline for residents between two parts of the city but also a symbol of neighborly kindness and ingenuity. Today, it stands as a cherished landmark that connects visitors and locals alike to Izmir’s past. What truly fascinated me about Asansör was the seamless blend of its historical roots with vibrant artistic culture. The area has been a hub for artists, notably the beloved singer Dario Moreno, whose legacy colors the neighborhood’s atmosphere. Walking through the narrow streets, I enjoyed quaint cafes and galleries that seem to echo stories of creativity and community spirit. The green spaces provide peaceful spots to rest and people-watch, enhancing the cozy ambiance. From my visits, I found the area especially magical during the late afternoon when the sunlight casts warm tones on the historic walls and the elevator itself. The fusion of architectural charm, cultural richness, and natural beauty makes Asansör a must-see for travelers wanting a genuine slice of Izmir life. For anyone planning a trip to Türkiye, exploring places like Asansör offers an intimate glimpse into the country’s layered history and local warmth beyond typical tourist sites.
