HI , I AM BERK

Meeting your best friend for the first time is always a special memory, and for me, that's Berk. When I first welcomed her into my life, I knew she was going to be an extraordinary companion. Just like the picture says, 'Meet my best friend! HI, I AM BERK', she truly introduced herself to my heart the moment we connected, and she's been the light of my life ever since. One of the most defining aspects of Berk's journey, and ours together, has been managing her liver shunt. It was quite a shock when we first found out, and understanding what a liver shunt meant for her health was a significant learning curve. Essentially, it means blood bypasses her liver, leading to toxins building up in her system. This requires a very specific diet, usually a low-protein prescription food, and sometimes medication to help manage the symptoms and support her liver function. It’s a constant commitment, ensuring she eats the right things and takes her supplements, but seeing her thrive makes every effort worth it. Regular vet visits are non-negotiable for us, and finding a veterinarian who truly understands her condition has been a game-changer. It's not always easy, but it's part of loving a special needs dog, and Berk handles it all with such grace and resilience, inspiring me every day. Berk's unique blend of Black Lab and Boykin Spaniel gives her such a distinct and heartwarming personality. From her Lab side, she gets that incredible loyalty, intelligence, and a boundless love for playtime – especially retrieving anything I throw! The Boykin Spaniel in her shines through in her eagerness to please, her gentle nature, and her affectionate disposition. She's a fantastic walking companion, always up for an adventure, but equally content to snuggle on the couch for a quiet evening. Her beautiful coat, a rich dark color, is a lovely mix of both breeds, making her quite striking. She has that classic Lab eagerness but with a slightly more refined, gentle demeanor that I adore. Our daily walks are definitely a highlight for both of us. Berk gets so excited when she sees her leash, practically dancing by the door! We explore local parks, scenic trails, and sometimes brave the beach. Speaking of the beach, it's funny how a dog who loves water can be so wary of waves! And thunder? Forget about it. She'll be glued to my side, trembling, during any storm. Over the years, I've learned little tricks to comfort her, like creating a cozy den with blankets and playing calming music. These moments, both the joyful and the comforting, are what build our incredible bond. She's truly the heart of our home, constantly reminding me to find joy in the simple things and offering unconditional love. Every day with Berk is a precious gift. She's taught me so much about resilience, patience, and the profound love an animal can bring into your life. She truly is my bestest friend, and I can't imagine my life without her wagging tail, sloppy kisses, and comforting presence. She's the light of my life, through and through, and I'm so grateful for every moment we share.
