From my observations and discussions with others interested in U.S. politics, this phenomenon can be partially explained by what many call "Obama Derangement Syndrome" (O.D.S.), a term humorously coined to describe an intense obsession or fixation on Obama by some political opponents. This syndrome reflects how Obama's policies, persona, and legacy continue to influence American politics, especially in partisan dynamics. Many supporters of Trump seem to define their political identity in opposition to Obama’s era, making Obama a symbolic figure in ongoing political battles. Trump's frequent references to Obama — even years after Obama's presidency — serve to rally his base and frame political debates in terms of contrast and rivalry. From my experience following political news cycles and engaging in community discussions, such persistent focus on a former president also shows how political leaders shape narratives that resonate with their followers. The continued mention of Obama's name keeps his legacy alive in public discourse, keeps supporters engaged, and can even distract from current challenges or controversies faced by the present leadership. In addition, this ongoing fixation may also highlight the importance of understanding political psychology and media influence in today’s culture. Personalization of politics encourages leaders and fans to see rivals not just as policy opponents but as personal adversaries, which amplifies the emotional intensity of political debates. Overall, the unusual fact that a former president can "live rent free" in another's mind years after leaving office demonstrates how political narratives persist and evolve. This dynamic offers a fascinating glimpse into the interplay between public figures, media, and public perception in shaping modern political landscapes.
