The Great Gatsby

... Read moreI'm so glad you're here to check out my latest Great Gatsby art! When I first read Fitzgerald's masterpiece, I just fell in love with the characters and the tragic beauty of their world. It really sparked something in me, making me want to bring them to life through my own drawings. These men, especially, and their complex lives, just hit me right in the feels. Lately, I've been really focused on sketching scenes and figures that capture the essence of the novel. For instance, creating a Nick Carraway sketch is always a fun challenge. I try to imagine his observational nature, perhaps a quiet moment, or his reactions to the extravagant parties. I love exploring different styles for him – sometimes a more realistic approach, sometimes a more stylized male figure with dark sunglasses, reflecting his detached yet involved perspective. The blue pen and marker are my go-to for these, giving them a raw, immediate feel. I've been trying to capture that tall male figure in a suit, often with a contemplative posture, sometimes just focusing on the dynamic lines that convey movement or emotion. And then there's the vibrant, tumultuous world of Myrtle Wilson. While I don't have a specific Myrtle drawing of her here, I often think about how to portray her vivacity and vulnerability. How would I sketch her energy, her dreams, and ultimately, her tragic fate? It’s a compelling thought for future pieces, capturing her spirit through bold lines and perhaps a hint of the chaos surrounding her. The challenge is always to make sure the drawing tells a story, even without words. Beyond the characters, I'm fascinated by the great gatsby symbols drawings that speak volumes about the era and the themes. The green light across the bay, the eyes of T.J. Eckleburg, the opulent parties hiding a deep emptiness – these are all fertile ground for artistic interpretation. I've been experimenting with incorporating these subtle symbols into the backgrounds or even within the characters themselves, like a hidden motif. Sometimes I'll just doodle ideas, like that thought 'Legs are weird' which pops up when I'm trying to get the anatomy right for a dynamic pose, or the more abstract 'ugly love yess' that reflects the complicated relationships and emotions woven throughout the narrative. It’s a joy to connect with other fans through these drawings. Art is my way of diving deeper into the stories that move me, and The Great Gatsby definitely moves me. I hope my sketches capture a bit of that magic for you too. It's truly a rewarding experience to share these little pieces of my imagination with fellow enthusiasts!

A lone figure stands in a snow-covered courtyard of a grand, illuminated building under a full moon, evoking a wintery, mysterious atmosphere.
A portly, cartoonish man with glasses and a mustache, wearing a white lab coat and vest, sits at a desk holding a pen and a piece of paper.
A large billboard featuring giant blue eyes with glasses overlooks a foggy, desolate street with old cars, reminiscent of the 'Eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg'.
