SUPERMOON 2024

Yesterday I captured the super moon. The next one won’t be coming in until 2037 so I was really excited to capture this moment because I have always missed the type of things and the moon looks so beautiful last night.#the moon has my heart #Supermoon #nightskies

There's just something magical about seeing the moon so big and bright, almost like you can reach out and touch it. It truly brings the night sky to life in a way regular full moons don't. When I looked up and saw that glowing orb, I knew I had to try and get some real-life images of it, even if just for my own memories. For those of you who might have missed the Supermoon 2024, or are curious about what makes it so special, it's basically when a full moon coincides with the moon being at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. This makes it appear larger and brighter than usual – sometimes up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter! The difference might be subtle to the naked eye for some, but once you know what to look for, it's absolutely breathtaking. That 'SupeRMood 2024' really lived up to its name for me! I wanted to share a few little tips I picked up, whether you're trying to capture the moon with your phone or just want to enjoy the next celestial event. First, try to find a spot away from city lights. Light pollution can really wash out the finer details of the night sky. Even if you're not planning to take photos, a darker environment makes the moon appear even more vibrant. If you're like me and just have your phone handy, don't despair! While professional cameras yield amazing results, you can still get decent real-life moon images. Try to zoom in as much as you can without losing too much quality. Tapping on the moon on your screen to focus and then gently dragging down the exposure slider can help prevent it from just looking like a bright blob. Using a tripod, even a small phone tripod, can make a massive difference in reducing blur. I found that waiting for a moment when there were some clouds around actually added a lot of drama to my night sky photos! And if you're thinking about the next chance to see something like this, remember what I said in my original post – the next truly spectacular one isn't until 2037! That makes this past 'SupeRMood 2024' even more special, a real once-in-a-long-time event. It just goes to show that sometimes, the most beautiful things in life require a bit of patience and a lot of looking up. I hope my real-life night sky photos give you a glimpse of what an amazing experience it was, and maybe inspire you to keep an eye out for the next incredible lunar show!
