Drawing when I’m bored 🫶✨
Hey everyone! 👋 You know that feeling when you're just... bored? Staring at the ceiling, scrolling endlessly, wishing for something fun to do? For me, my sketchbook is my ultimate boredom buster! I've found that even just a few minutes of drawing can totally shift my mood and spark some joy. So, if you're looking for some easy and fun drawing ideas to try when boredom hits, you've come to the right place! Let's face it, we all get those moments when we're twiddling our thumbs, craving a creative outlet but feeling totally uninspired. That's where simple drawing comes in! You don't need to be a professional artist or have fancy supplies. Just a pen and paper (or even a digital tablet!) are enough to get started. Here are some of my go-to drawing ideas that always help me kick boredom to the curb: 1. Everyday Objects Around You: This is my absolute favorite starting point. Look around your room right now! A coffee mug, a houseplant, your keys, a book, a piece of fruit on the counter – these are fantastic subjects. Don't overthink it or try to make it perfect. Just try to capture the basic shape, the shadows, and maybe a few key details. It's amazing how much you can learn from observing and sketching everyday items. Plus, they're always available! 2. Mindless Doodles & Patterns: When I'm really not feeling 'serious' art, I turn to doodling. Think geometric shapes, squiggles, repetitive lines, stars, hearts, or even just abstract patterns. You can fill a whole page with these, create intricate mandalas, or simply let your pen wander wherever it wants. Doodling is super meditative, requires zero pressure, and is a fantastic way to pass time creatively without any stress. 3. Nature's Simple Wonders: Nature is an endless source of inspiration, even if you're just looking out your window. Simple leaves, fluffy clouds drifting by, a single flower, or even just the silhouette of a tree against the sky. You don't need to be a landscape artist; just capture the essence. Clouds are particularly fun because there's no 'wrong' way to draw them, and they're always changing! 4. Expressive Faces or Quirky Characters: Want to draw people but find it intimidating? Start with simple expressions! A happy face, a surprised face, a sleepy face. You can use basic shapes like circles and ovals as your foundation. Or, try creating a simple, quirky character – maybe a little monster, an alien, or a cartoon animal. Focus on big eyes, simple mouths, and exaggerated features to make it fun and expressive. 5. Abstract Swirls & Color Play: Sometimes, I just want to play with colors and shapes without any specific goal. Grab some crayons, markers, or even just a pencil, and let your hand move freely. Create swirls, overlapping lines, or fill areas with different patterns. It's a fantastic way to release creative energy and explore different color combinations without worrying about realism or a final product. 6. Random Drawing Prompts: If you're completely blank, try a drawing prompt generator online, or just combine two random words in your head, like 'flying teapot,' 'sleepy robot,' or 'singing cactus.' The sillier and more unexpected, the better! These prompts force you to think outside the box and often lead to hilarious and truly unique results. Quick Tips for Beating Artist's Block When Bored: Don't aim for perfection: This isn't a gallery piece; it's a boredom buster! The goal is to enjoy the process and create something for yourself. Set a timer: Even 5-10 minutes is enough to get started. Sometimes just committing to a short burst of creativity is all you need. Use different materials: Switch from pencil to gel pen, or even colored pencils. A change in tools can spark new ideas and a different approach. Listen to music: Put on your favorite tunes, an interesting podcast, or some ambient sounds and let the rhythm or narrative guide your hand subtly. Share your art! Even if it's just a doodle, sharing it with a friend or on social media can be really encouraging and might inspire others too! So next time boredom strikes, don't just sit there! Grab a pen and paper and give one of these ideas a try. You might be surprised at what you create, and how much better you feel. Happy drawing, everyone!
