... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, I have to talk about 'Icebreaker: A Maple Hills Novel' by Hannah Grace. I'm deep into it, currently on chapter 28, and my emotions are all over the place! From the very start, with its delightful premise of a fierce figure skater and a charming (sometimes infuriating) hockey player, I knew I was in for a ride. And oh boy, it's been a ride.
Let's get straight to the point: Aaron. Don't even get me started! He's the kind of character you love to hate, or maybe hate to love? He just makes me so unbelievably irritated sometimes. Is it his cocky attitude? His seemingly effortless charm that gets him out of every pickle? Or perhaps just how oblivious he can be to certain situations? My current read-through has me constantly asking 'Aaron, what are you doing?!' one moment, and then 'Ugh, fine, you're kind of swoon-worthy' the next. It’s a rollercoaster of feelings, and honestly, that’s what makes the book so engaging. His banter with the female main character is top-tier, even when he’s being a complete menace.
And for those wondering about the 'spicy' level, let me tell you, 'Icebreaker' delivers! 🔥 Hannah Grace truly knows how to build tension and steamy moments without it feeling forced. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and those 'spicy' scenes? Let’s just say they definitely turn up the heat. It’s not just about the physical aspect; it’s the emotional intensity and the way the characters navigate their growing attraction amidst all the chaos of college sports. I find myself holding my breath during their close encounters, eagerly anticipating what will happen next. It's the kind of romance that makes you blush and root for the couple despite all their obstacles, Aaron’s infuriating tendencies included.
The setting, with the competitive worlds of figure skating and college hockey, adds so much depth. You really get a sense of the dedication and pressure these athletes face, which grounds the romance in a realistic, albeit dramatic, environment. Watching the figure skater navigate her challenges while dealing with Aaron and his hockey team's antics provides a great backdrop for their developing relationship.
Overall, even with Aaron testing my patience every few pages, I’m absolutely captivated. It’s rare to find a book where a character can evoke such strong reactions, both positive and negative, and still have you completely invested in their journey. This is definitely a book I'd recommend if you're looking for a sports romance with plenty of banter, a healthy dose of spice, and a character who will absolutely get under your skin (in the best possible way, I guess!). I’m giving 'Icebreaker' four out of five stars currently, and I can't wait to see how everything unfolds in the remaining chapters. What are your thoughts on Aaron? Did he irritate you as much as he does me?
I wanna read it soon❤️
