Good Day PA! interview - Unlike Before 💜
In May of last year, a few weeks after Unlike Before released, I had the pleasure of being a guest on Good Day PA! in Harrisburg for their Author Spotlight segment. Enjoyed every minute of it. #authorlife #booktalk #indieauthors #indiebooks #blackromancebooks
Remember that exciting day I mentioned when I was on Good Day PA! for my 'Author Spotlight'? It truly was an unforgettable experience, and I wanted to share a little more about what went on behind the scenes and what it meant to me as an indie author. Stepping onto that set, I was a mix of nerves and pure exhilaration. Being able to talk about 'Unlike Before' on live television was a dream come true. The hosts were wonderful, and it felt so good to share my passion for storytelling. We chatted about my journey as an author, the inspiration behind my work, and of course, the heart of 'Unlike Before' itself. For those who might not know, 'Unlike Before' is a black romance novel that holds a very special place in my heart. The story centers around two compelling characters, Patience and Michael, and explores themes of second chances, healing, and finding love in unexpected places. Patience, a woman who has built walls around her heart after past hurts, finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Michael, a man who challenges her perceptions and encourages her to embrace a future she never thought possible. Their journey is one of vulnerability, growth, and ultimately, a powerful connection that transcends their individual struggles. Writing their story, exploring their complexities, and watching them navigate their emotions was an incredibly rewarding process. As an indie author, every milestone, big or small, feels incredibly significant. From the initial spark of an idea to countless hours of writing, editing, and then finally seeing 'Unlike Before' out in the world, it's a labor of love. The interview on Good Day PA! was a fantastic opportunity to reach new readers and introduce them to the world I've created. It also highlighted the vibrant community of #blackromancebooks and #indieauthors out there, proving that unique voices and diverse stories are not only valued but sought after. My goal with 'Unlike Before' was to craft a story that resonates, that makes you feel, and that ultimately leaves you with a sense of hope and the power of love. One of the questions I often get asked is about the writing process itself, or what advice I have for aspiring writers. My biggest takeaway from experiences like the Good Day PA! interview, and indeed from my entire author journey, is to embrace authenticity. Write the stories that burn within you, the ones only you can tell. Don't be afraid to put your unique stamp on your work. For 'Unlike Before,' that meant delving into complex characters and their emotional landscapes, creating a narrative that felt real and impactful. It's not just about getting published; it's about connecting with readers, sharing a piece of your soul, and creating something that truly resonates. So, if you're curious about Patience and Michael's journey, or if you're an aspiring author yourself, I encourage you to dive in and explore the possibilities!
