"We must put America first"
But before we do that, we must ACKNOWLEDGE and give CREDIT to those who were the INVENTORS!!!
You know, sometimes we take so much for granted in our daily lives, without ever pausing to think about the brilliant minds behind the inventions that make them possible. I recently went down a rabbit hole learning about some incredible Black inventors and tech pioneers whose contributions are truly foundational to our modern world, and I just had to share! It's so important to acknowledge and give credit to these innovators. For instance, have you heard of Granville Tailer Woods? He was an absolute genius in electrical engineering. While the OCR mentioned his patented durable carbon filament, his work went far beyond that. He held over 50 patents, including improvements to electric railway systems and the multiplex telegraphy, which allowed multiple messages to be sent over a single wire. Imagine how revolutionary that was for communication and transportation in the late 19th century! Then there's Otis Boykin, whose work literally kept hearts beating. He's famously known for his invention of improved electrical resistors, which were crucial for pacemakers, as well as being used in guided missiles and other electronic devices. It's mind-boggling to think how his precise electronic components saved countless lives and advanced critical technology. And let's not forget the digital age pioneers. Mark E. Dean, an African American computer engineer, played a pivotal role in the development of the IBM PC. He co-developed the ISA bus, which allowed for peripheral devices like disk drives and printers to be connected to the motherboard. He also led the team that developed the first gigahertz processor chip. Without his innovations, the personal computer as we know it today might look very different! It makes me wonder how many of us use technology daily that relies on his groundbreaking work. Speaking of modern tech, the cell phone is practically an extension of ourselves now. A key figure in its development is Jesse Russell, who was instrumental in inventing the digital cellular phone. He developed the concept of the wireless phone communicating with a base station, which is the very foundation of how our mobile networks operate. It’s wild to think that without his foresight, we might not be scrolling on our phones right now! And finally, the navigation system we rely on daily? A huge thanks goes to Gladys West. Her mathematical modeling of the shape of the Earth was absolutely critical for the accurate development of the Global Positioning System (GPS). Her work transformed how we travel, navigate, and even how many industries operate. It's truly inspiring to learn about her dedication and impact. Learning about these individuals – Granville Tailer Woods, Otis Boykin, Mark E. Dean, Jesse Russell, and Gladys West – really drives home the point that innovation comes from everywhere, and that acknowledging these unsung heroes is crucial for a complete understanding of history. Their stories are a powerful reminder of the incredible ingenuity and perseverance within the African American community, and how their inventions have profoundly shaped our world.
