pecas

... Read moreOkay, so for the longest time, I used to wonder about my 'pecas.' What are they, really? If you're like me, you might have grown up with these little sun-kissed spots on your skin, sometimes loving them, sometimes wishing they'd just disappear. But guess what? I've totally fallen in love with my freckles, and I want to share why! First off, 'pecas' is simply the Spanish word for freckles, and they're those small, brownish spots that often appear on sun-exposed skin. There are generally two types: ephelides, which are flat, small, and usually appear in childhood, often fading in winter, and solar lentigines (sometimes called sunspots or age spots), which are more common in adults and tend to be darker and persist longer. Mine are definitely the ephelides type, especially after a sunny day, popping out even more when bathed in bright sunlight! I used to try to cover them up, feeling like they made me look too 'young' or just... different. But now, as a young woman, I see them as a unique part of my identity. That golden hour sunlight hitting my face just right, emphasizing those cute little spots? It's pure magic! Instead of hiding, I've learned to embrace them. It feels so liberating to show off my natural skin and the character my freckles add. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is about sun protection. Pecas are a sign of sun exposure, so protecting my skin is super important. I always make sure to wear a good SPF, even on cloudy days. It’s not about preventing new freckles (I love them!), but about protecting my skin's health and preventing sun damage. I also use gentle cleansers and moisturizers to keep my skin happy and glowing, allowing my freckles to shine through. And when it comes to makeup? My philosophy has totally shifted. Instead of heavy foundations, I opt for lighter coverage – think tinted moisturizers or BB creams that even out my skin tone without completely masking my freckles. A little bit of blush on the apples of my cheeks, maybe some highlighter to catch the light, and I'm good to go. I've found that a pop of color, like a pink lip or even a subtle pink top, can really complement the warmth of my freckled skin. And with my highlighted hair, it just adds to that sun-kissed vibe I adore, making me feel confident and radiant. I love how a natural makeup look truly showcases my unique features. So, if you have pecas, or freckles, know that they are beautiful. They tell a story of sun, laughter, and unique beauty. Let's celebrate our spots and rock that natural, radiant skin!
