I thought cats were supposed to hate water?! 🚫💧

Mine went straight outside after it rained, started sniffing all the flowers 🌼 (pic 1), and was just... vibing in the puddles.

Then he looked up and gave me the CUTEST "thank you" high-five! (pic 2) My heart has officially melted. 🥹

He's 100% a supermodel in his spare time. Just look at that pose! (pic 3) ✨

❓Time to vote: Is he...

A) Giving a high-five?

B) Asking for treats?

C) Waving at a bird?

Let me know what you think in the comments! 😂

... Read moreI’ve always heard the common wisdom: 'Cats hate water.' It’s practically a universal truth, right? But then you see moments like the one I recently witnessed – a friend's Siamese cat joyfully exploring rain puddles – and suddenly, that wisdom gets a big question mark. It makes you wonder, especially with specific breeds like Siamese, if the whole 'water-hating cat' stereotype is really true for every feline. From what I've observed and read, Siamese cats often seem to have a different relationship with water than many other breeds. Their short, sleek coats likely dry faster, which might make getting a little wet less uncomfortable. Plus, they're renowned for their intelligence and inquisitive nature. I've heard countless stories, and even seen it myself, where Siamese cats are utterly fascinated by dripping faucets, will sometimes play with a slow stream of water, or even tolerate baths with surprising calm. It’s not necessarily about them loving a full soak, but more about their inherent curiosity. Seeing a striking blue-eyed Siamese like the one in the original post, unafraid of rain puddles and even sniffing yellow and white flowers on the wet ground, just shows how individual their personalities are. My own cat, while not a Siamese, is mesmerized by the bathtub faucet, although she draws the line at actually getting in the tub! This brings me to another interesting cat behavior: sniffing water. Whether it's a bowl, a puddle, or a cat sniffing a water fountain, it's a common sight. Cats primarily explore their world through scent, so it's perfectly natural for them to give any water source a good sniff. They're checking for freshness, for anything unusual, or maybe even for signs of movement that could indicate prey – old instincts die hard! I've noticed my cat always sniffs her water bowl before taking a single sip, even if I just refilled it moments ago. It’s their way of making sure it’s safe and palatable. For many cats, especially those who are a bit particular about their water intake, a water fountain can be a game-changer. The constant movement and aeration can make the water far more appealing, often mimicking a natural, flowing source. That's why you often see cats so intently sniffing water fountains – they’re intrigued by the perceived freshness and flow. I found that investing in a good quality fountain really encouraged my cat to drink more, which is crucial for their kidney health. If your cat is a 'sniffer' but not a big drinker, try experimenting with different types of fountains – ceramic, stainless steel, or plastic – to see what they prefer. Some cats like a bubbling stream, while others prefer a gentle cascade. Beyond fountains, there are other simple ways to encourage your feline friend to drink more. Placing multiple water bowls around the house, keeping them far away from food bowls (cats often prefer this), and ensuring the water is fresh and clean daily are all key. Some cats even enjoy a few ice cubes in their water on a hot day. You can also incorporate wet food into their diet, which provides significant hydration. It's all about making water as appealing and accessible as possible. Remember, even a cat that seems to 'hate' getting wet might still be fascinated by water and definitely needs to stay well-hydrated. Ultimately, every cat is a unique individual with their own endearing quirks and preferences. My friend's delightful Siamese cat enjoying the rain puddles is a perfect example of how our furry companions can surprise us and challenge our preconceived notions. It’s a wonderful reminder to observe our pets closely and appreciate their individual personalities – whether they’re giving a furry high-five or just curiously sniffing their water source.
