... Read moreHey everyone! I've been on a spiritual journey for a while now, and one practice that has truly deepened my faith is using anointing oil. It's more than just oil; it's a tangible symbol of God's presence, protection, and blessing. I remember feeling a strong desire to connect with this ancient tradition, and honestly, making my own anointing oil has been such a powerful experience. It's amazing how something so simple can carry such profound spiritual significance. If you're like me, you want to ensure your practices are rooted in scripture. The Bible provides a clear blueprint for holy anointing oil in Exodus 30:23-24. This isn't just any oil; it's a specific blend commanded by God! The recipe calls for four precious spices combined with pure olive oil: myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, and cassia. Each ingredient has its own unique symbolism and historical significance, making the blend truly sacred. For instance, myrrh was often used in purification rites and burial, symbolizing suffering and resurrection, while sweet cinnamon represents zeal and devotion. Calamus, also known as fragrant cane, speaks of uprightness and purity, and cassia, similar to cinnamon, has properties associated with spiritual healing and cleansing. Using pure olive oil as the base is also crucial, as olive oil consistently represents the Holy Spirit and anointing throughout scripture. So, how do you actually put this together? While the exact quantities in Exodus 30 were for the tabernacle, you can adapt the spirit of the recipe for personal use. Start with a good quality, pure olive oil – extra virgin is often preferred. For the spices, you can use essential oils of myrrh, cinnamon, calamus (often labeled as 'sweet flag' or 'ayurvedic calamus'), and cassia. Be mindful that cinnamon and cassia essential oils can be strong, so use them sparingly, especially if you plan to touch the oil to your skin. A common ratio I use is about 10-15 drops of myrrh, 5-7 drops of cinnamon, 5-7 drops of calamus, and 5-7 drops of cassia per ounce of olive oil. Mix them gently in a clean, sterilized bottle. The key isn't just the blend, but the intention and prayer you pour into it. Now, this is where the magic truly happens – inviting God's Spirit into your oil. Before you use it, hold the bottle in your hands and pray sincerely. My prayer often goes something like this: 'Heavenly Father, I consecrate this oil before You. As I dedicate it, I ask that Your Holy Spirit would fill it, making it holy and set apart for Your purposes. Let it be a symbol of Your presence, power, and protection. May it be used to bring healing, deliverance, blessing, and spiritual insight according to Your will. In Jesus' mighty name, I pray. Amen.' Feel free to adapt this prayer to your own words, but the heart of it is to ask for God's anointing. Once blessed, your anointing oil is ready for use. I've personally found it incredibly comforting to anoint my home. I simply walk through each room, dabbing a tiny bit on doorframes or windowsills, praying for God's protection and peace over my family and space. You can also anoint yourself for spiritual protection, anoint loved ones for healing or blessing, or even anoint objects that you dedicate to God, like your Bible or prayer journal. Remember, the power isn't in the oil itself, but in the faith with which you use it and the God you believe in. It's a beautiful way to declare His sovereignty over every aspect of your life.
