Lessons I’ve learned and want to teach my kids.
1. Choose your friends wisely!
2. Be the friend that takes others to the feet of Jesus!
Constantly, learning, growing, and healing so I can teach my kids and become a better example each day!
Discernment is vital in friendships but it’s also important to know what kind of friend we are. My Mom would tell me to be the kind of friend I want. As I looked back I can see where I’m weak in areas and where I can grow- I see great qualities in my friends and it inspires me to be better.

From my own experience, the friends we surround ourselves with significantly shape our spiritual journey and daily life. There are friends who might unintentionally pull us away from our relationship with Jesus, while others inspire us to grow closer and support us in our faith. Recognizing these differences is key to nurturing meaningful friendships that enrich both our lives and those of our children. Teaching kids about friendship discernment means helping them understand the importance of surrounding themselves with people who uplift their values and encourage their spiritual growth. It’s equally important to reflect on the kind of friend we are. Are we the ones who lead others toward positive, faith-grounded pathways? This perspective encourages us to cultivate humility and continuous self-improvement. Additionally, observing traits in our friends that we admire can be a great source of inspiration for personal development. Attributes like kindness, patience, and faithfulness are qualities that, when emulated, help us become better individuals and role models. By openly discussing these ideas with our children, we equip them with the wisdom to build healthy, supportive relationships. In daily life, I've found that intentional prayer and reflection assist in discerning friendships. Praying for guidance helps me evaluate whether my relationships are nurturing my faith or distracting me from it. It's also useful to engage in Christian community groups where shared beliefs foster stronger bonds and mutual encouragement. Ultimately, cultivating friendships that bring us closer to Jesus not only enriches our spiritual walk but also strengthens the foundation we lay for the next generation. Our children learn best through example, so as we strive to be the friend who 'takes others to the feet of Jesus,' we also teach them to value friendship rooted in faith and love.
