What are you doing in this situation. Add additional gratuity or leave the check as is?

... Read moreWhen dining out, gratuity can sometimes be a confusing topic, especially when the bill already includes a suggested or included tip amount. For instance, if your bill shows an amount like $81.12 with an included gratuity of $16.22 (20%), you might wonder if it’s appropriate to add extra tip or to leave the amount as is. Personally, I’ve been in situations where the service was exceptional and decided to add an additional tip beyond what was suggested. On the other hand, if the service met expectations or if the included gratuity is generous, I usually leave it at the included amount. It’s helpful to consider local customs, whether the gratuity is mandatory, and the quality of service when deciding. Also, some bills provide multiple suggested gratuity options like 20%, 22%, and 25%. These suggestions are meant to guide you but not obligate you. If you feel the service was outstanding, choosing the higher percentage or adding a small extra amount can be a nice way to show appreciation. Conversely, if the service was average, sticking to the suggested gratuity or leaving the included tip is perfectly acceptable. In addition, considering your total expenditure and how the gratuity affects the overall amount is important. For example, an $81.12 bill with a $16.22 tip to a $97.34 total is pretty standard for many dining experiences. Deciding on additional gratuity ultimately comes down to your personal experience and comfort level.

Leave it as is…or dispute it. If it’s not disclosed up front…American culture is so backwards. Tips are not to be expected it’s default inclusion.
