How I install my wigs
Thought I’d show yall my routine #wigroutine #wiginstall
Hey lovely people! So many of you asked for a more detailed breakdown of my wig installation, especially if you're just starting out, so here it is! Whether you're doing a fresh install or, like me today, deciding to reinstall this wig w me for a refreshed look, getting it right from the start makes all the difference. It can feel a bit overwhelming when you're learning how to wear a wig for beginners, but trust me, it gets easier with practice! First things first, let’s talk about prepping your natural hair. This is super important for a smooth, flat base. I usually wash and condition my hair, then braid it down into cornrows or flat twists. If your hair is shorter, simply slicking it back tightly with gel works too. The flatter your natural hair, the less bulky your wig will look. If you're doing a reinstall, make sure any old adhesive residue is gently removed from your hairline and scalp first – a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad does wonders, but always be gentle and follow up with a soothing moisturizer. Scalp care is key! Now, for the MVP of wig wearing: the wig cap! I know this is a big question for many beginners asking how to put a wig cap on. A good wig cap not only protects your natural hair but also creates an ideal, smooth surface for your wig to sit on, preventing slippage and giving a more natural scalp appearance. I personally love nude or skin-toned stocking caps because they blend seamlessly. Some people even use two caps for an ultra-realistic 'bald cap' effect, but for daily wear, one good stocking cap is usually enough. Here’s my simple process for putting on a wig cap for a flawless base: Preparation: Ensure your natural hair is already flattened and secured, either braided or slicked back. This is crucial for avoiding bumps. Positioning: Place the open end of the stocking cap over your head, starting from the back of your neck. Make sure the seam is at the back. Pull Forward & Tuck: Gently pull the cap forward over your forehead, making sure every single strand of your natural hair is tucked neatly underneath. Smooth out any bumps. Flatten & Secure: Adjust the cap so it’s snug but not uncomfortably tight, and as flat as possible, especially around your hairline. I sometimes use a little hairspray over the cap edges to help it stay put and keep tiny baby hairs from poking out. A trick I picked up is using a wide elastic band or scarf for 10-15 minutes after applying the cap – it helps flatten it down perfectly. Trim Excess (Optional but Recommended): Carefully trim any excess cap material from your forehead with sharp scissors, leaving just enough to cover your hairline without interfering with your wig's lace. This creates a much cleaner look. Once your wig cap is perfectly laid, you're ready for the wig itself! For beginners, I often recommend starting with a glue-less wig or using minimal adhesive like a wig grip band or a light hold spray. Carefully position the wig on your head, making sure its hairline aligns perfectly with your natural hairline. Gently pull it down and adjust until it feels secure and comfortable. Many wigs come with adjustable straps and combs inside that you can hook into your wig cap or natural braids for extra security. Take your time to make sure it's centered and even! And that’s pretty much my personal routine for installations and reinstalling wigs! It’s all about practice and finding what works best for your head shape and hair type. Don't be afraid to experiment, and remember, a flawless wig day starts with a solid foundation. You got this! ✨
