BLW friendly dinner ideas
recent meals I’ve made as a mom trying to prioritize whole foods! #mealideas #blwideas #blwrecipes #babyfood #7monthsold
Introducing solid foods to a 7-month-old can be both exciting and challenging. As a mom prioritizing whole foods, I’ve found that incorporating familiar, wholesome ingredients into baby-led weaning (BLW) dinners not only supports my little one’s nutritional needs but also encourages self-feeding skills. One of my recent favorites has been cottage cheese broccoli meatballs. These are soft, packed with protein and calcium, and easy for babies to grab and chew. The broccoli adds essential vitamins and fiber, making it a well-rounded meal. Another hit at our dinner table has been meatballs made with buckwheat and mashed kidney beans—this combo offers an excellent balance of complex carbs, protein, and fiber, helping with digestion and sustained energy. Mashed kidney beans mixed with broccoli and buckwheat create a smooth yet textured dish that encourages exploration of different flavors and textures. For a heartier option, I prepare steaks with mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes add a naturally sweet taste and a creamy texture, which babies often enjoy, while steak provides iron crucial for growing infants. Chicken and rice dinners remain a staple in our household due to their simplicity and nutritional value. I make sure the chicken is tender and cut into small, manageable pieces, while the rice is cooked soft to ease chewing. In all these meals, focusing on whole foods ensures the baby receives minimal processed ingredients, promoting a healthy relationship with food early on. BLW can sometimes feel daunting, but using versatile ingredients like those mentioned provides variety and keeps mealtimes enjoyable for both me and my baby. I'd recommend parents experimenting with these ideas and adjusting textures as their babies develop new feeding skills.
