My attempt of making a crookie🍪🥐
Cookies n cream Oreo cookies #baking ❤️ #cookingwithjadansymone #gettoknowme
Okay, so if you haven't heard about the 'crookie' yet, you're in for a treat! It's the latest viral dessert sensation, basically a glorious mashup of a flaky croissant and a gooey chocolate chip cookie. It sounds a bit wild, but trust me, it's absolutely divine. I decided to jump on the bandwagon and try making my own, and it was such a fun experience! If you're searching for a delicious and relatively easy crookie recipe, you've come to the right place. My version uses a super simple base to get that amazing cookie texture. For the cookie dough part, I started with a regular cake mix – any vanilla or yellow cake mix will do, it's a fantastic shortcut! To that, I added 1/2 cup of oil (vegetable or canola works best) and just enough water to bring it together into a thick dough. You want it pliable, not too sticky. This is where you can get creative with your mix-ins. I went for a cookies and cream vibe, which was inspired by using some delicious Oreo cookies. I crushed about 6 cookies to get some chunky bits and finer crumbs, making sure to save a few larger pieces for topping. Then came the chocolate! I chopped up an entire Hershey bar into bite-sized pieces and also threw in 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips. The combination of milk chocolate and white chocolate adds such a lovely depth of flavor. Gently fold all these goodies into your cookie dough until they're evenly distributed. Don't overmix, though, or your cookies might get tough! Now for the croissant part. The easiest way to do this at home is to buy pre-made, unbaked croissants from your local bakery or even the refrigerated dough section at the grocery store. Take a croissant, gently flatten it a little, and then spoon a generous amount of your prepared cookie dough right into the center. You can either wrap the croissant dough around the cookie dough like a little package or simply place the dough on top and around the edges, letting the croissant peek out. I found that gently pressing the cookie dough into the center of the croissant, leaving some of the flaky pastry exposed, gives the best visual and textural contrast. Once your crookies are assembled, it's time to bake! Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place your crookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, giving them a little space because they will spread. I baked mine for about 10 to 12 minutes. You'll know they're ready when the cookie dough is set and slightly golden brown around the edges, and the croissant pastry is puffed up and beautifully golden. The inside should still be wonderfully gooey – that's the best part! Let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack. They are absolutely heavenly when they're still warm, with that melted chocolate oozing out. Serve them as a special breakfast treat, afternoon snack, or even a unique dessert. They're definitely a crowd-pleaser and so much fun to make. Give this crookie recipe a try – I promise you won't regret it!
