DIML as a senior biology major

1/26 Edited to

... Read moreBeing a senior biology major comes with its unique challenges and fulfilling moments. One thing I've learned over my last semester is the importance of maintaining a balanced routine—not just focusing solely on academics but also taking time for physical health and mental well-being. My day usually starts early, around 7:00 am, with a quick trip to the gym. Incorporating exercises like the Stairmaster helps me energize for the day ahead. Although the workouts can be tough (sometimes the Stairmaster seems unbeatable!), this morning ritual really boosts my focus during demanding classes like Immunology Lab and Vertebrate Embryology. Classes are intense with overlapping topics like home migration and cell death in vertebrate embryos, which require both attention and active participation. Taking detailed notes and reviewing concepts regularly has been a lifesaver, especially when juggling laboratory work and lectures. Between lectures and labs, I find short breaks for meals essential—not only to refuel but to step back and process what I’m learning. Music, such as Spotify playlists like those featuring artists like Madison Beer, helps me stay relaxed and motivated throughout the day. Managing technical glitches on educational apps or platforms can sometimes add stress, but having a flexible mindset allows me to adapt and keep moving forward without losing momentum. Overall, balancing rigorous study sessions with self-care routines like gym workouts and mindful breaks has been vital to sustaining my motivation and performance throughout this final semester. If you’re a fellow college student or biology major, I highly recommend finding a routine that integrates both your academic responsibilities and personal well-being. It really makes the journey more enjoyable and productive!
