My Winter Wash and Go Routine!
Hi everyone! Here is my winter wash and go routine. I use the LCO method on my hair as I feel like it locks in moisture the best on my type for hair. Here I’ll go into depth on some of my products and why I use them
- aloe Vera juice: aloe Vera juice can hold on to moister longer than water. Which is perfect for these colder temperatures! I bought this jug at Walmart for 3 bucks!
- auntie Jackie’s leave in conditioner: I love this conditioner as it’s very light weight and is one of the few that I feel like doesn’t give me flakes. Even though it is light weight it definitely still gives me the hydration that I need
- The doux curling gel: the gel has changed my life! Not only does it give moisture but it holds curls sooooo well!
- blue magic: she is an old reliable a little of her goes a long way. I use this in the winter instead of oil for more moisture and length retention.
As a natural girlies it’s key to keep our hair moisturized throughout these cold temperatures so we can get waist length hair in the summer! I hope this helps and enjoy your wash and go ☺️ #winterbeauty #lemon8contest #naturalhairroutine #washandgo #type4hair
Keeping natural type 4 hair moisturized during the harsh winter months can be a challenge, but adopting a consistent routine like the LCO method really makes a difference. From personal experience, using aloe vera juice as the liquid step is a game changer because it retains moisture longer than plain water, which is essential in dry and cold conditions. Spritzing this liberally helps maintain hydration throughout the day. After that, applying a lightweight leave-in conditioner, such as Aunt Jackie's, prevents flaking and provides necessary slip without weighing down the hair. This is important because heavy conditioners can cause buildup that challenges curl definition. For sealing moisture and defining curls, the doux curling gel is a must for me. Its hold keeps my curls defined without crunchiness, allowing for soft, bouncy curls that last several days. Finally, swapping oil for Blue Magic in the winter provides deeper moisture and aids length retention—a crucial step if you’re aiming for waist-length hair by summer. One tip I'd add is to ensure you layer your products in the correct order—liquid first, cream second, then oil or gel last—to lock in moisture effectively. Also, try using a spray bottle for the aloe vera juice to evenly saturate your hair without getting it overly soaked, which can sometimes cause shrinkage. Consistency is key in winter hair care, so repeat your wash and go weekly and protect your hair at night with a satin bonnet or pillowcase to preserve moisture. Overall, the LCO method combined with these specific products has transformed how my curls respond in cold weather—better moisture retention, longer-lasting styles, and healthier hair growth. I hope sharing my routine inspires others to adapt their winter hair care for optimal hair health and beautiful curls all season long.
