Icebergs in Sydney

2025/3/19 Edited to

... Read moreOh my goodness, you guys! If you're ever in Sydney, you absolutely have to make a pilgrimage to Bondi Icebergs. I honestly can't stop thinking about my recent visit – it was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Australia! You might be wondering, 'What exactly is Bondi Icebergs?' Well, it's not actually an iceberg, haha! It's one of the most famous ocean pools in the world, nestled right at the southern end of iconic Bondi Beach. The name actually comes from the winter swimming club that's been active there for over a century – they swim through the colder months, earning them the 'Icebergs' moniker. Talk about dedication! Stepping onto the deck and seeing that bright turquoise outdoor pool for the first time, with the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean just beyond, was breathtaking. It's even more stunning in real life than any photo you've seen. The atmosphere is just electric – a mix of serious lap swimmers, families splashing around, and people like me, just soaking it all in and trying to capture that perfect Instagram shot. I spent a glorious afternoon there. After paying a small entry fee (which is totally worth it!), I found a spot to lay my towel. The changing rooms are clean and there are hot showers, which is a big plus after a refreshing dip in the cool saltwater. I loved just floating in the pool, watching the surfers out in the ocean and feeling the sun on my skin. The water was incredibly invigorating – a perfect contrast to the warm Aussie sun. I even saw some people doing laps, looking so graceful against the stunning backdrop. It's a fantastic spot whether you're a serious swimmer or just want to relax. Beyond the main pool, there's also a smaller kids' pool, which is great if you're visiting with little ones. And seriously, the views from the pool deck are unparalleled. You can see the entire expanse of Bondi Beach stretching north, and the dramatic coastline south towards Coogee. It's the kind of view you could stare at for hours. A few tips if you're planning your own visit: Go early: Especially on a sunny weekend, it can get quite busy. Arriving closer to opening time (usually 6:00 AM) means fewer crowds and a more serene swimming experience. Bring your own towel and sunscreen: Essentials for any beach or pool day in Australia! Consider staying for lunch: There's a fantastic bistro upstairs with incredible views and delicious food, perfect for refuelling after your swim. Check opening times: They sometimes close for cleaning or events, so it's always good to check their website before you go. Bondi Icebergs isn't just a pool; it's an institution, a piece of Sydney's soul. It's an experience that truly captures the laid-back, yet vibrant, Australian beach culture. If you're looking for an iconic Australian experience, add this to your list – you won't regret it! It's more than just a swim; it's a memory you'll cherish.
