Things I have and haven’t used in college

things i have and have and haven’t used in college! there’s sm that i just don’t use and sm that i do and i hope this helps people who are wondering what not and to get.

things i have used:

- woozoo fan: so cooling and completely helps with night sweats. i point it at myself every night and wake up refreshed.

- shoe rack (pantry): i bought a hanging shoe rack and then hung it in my closet. but instead of putting shoes in it, i put my food in it. it really helped preserve space and allowed free space for more things in other places.

- white noise machine: people get really loud, even past quiet hours. having this to drown out the noise while i’m trying to sleep has proven to be so so so helpful!

things i haven’t used/ wasted money on:

- bed shelf: this didn’t even fit my bed. somehow i pushed really hard on it and it somewhat went into place. but it was in the way of walking and just in general. it made me scared that i was going to easily knock it off or over.

- shoe rack: there’s probably 3-4 places around my dorm that i could use for shoe storage. look around ur dorm on tours and if there’s somewhere you can imagine being a good shoe rack, use it, it saves SO MUCH space.

- nurtibullet/portable blender: i really thought i was going to use this thing. but the closet grocery store to me is a 10 min walk, and i can’t necessarily carry 10 bags of groceries back to the dorm with me.

... Read moreNavigating college life comes with a myriad of choices, particularly when it comes to what to bring along for the ride. Ensuring that every item served a purpose can make the transition smoother. Among the top essentials not to miss is a good fan to combat warm nights, and a practical shoe rack can remarkably enhance space management in your dorm room. Besides helping with organization, it can also free up valuable area that can be utilized for other essentials. The white noise machine stands out as another invaluable item that fosters better sleep by creating a calming environment, especially beneficial during noisy hours in dorm life. In contrast, certain items like a bedside shelf may seem appealing but can become additional clutter, proving that practical utility matters more than aesthetics. Likewise, appliances such as a NutriBullet may fall short if access to fresh produce or space to prep smoothies is limited. The key takeaway here is to assess personal needs and available space before purchasing items for university living. For fresh perspectives, browsing trending college hacks on platforms like TikTok or Google can also be helpful, allowing students to remain updated on what other peers find useful or unnecessary. Balancing personal preferences with functional items can turn any dorm into a cozy and organized space.
