Read moreFrom personal experience and extensive online discussions, it's clear that the pressure to conform to Eurocentric beauty norms can be deeply damaging, especially regarding facial features like the nose. The trend labeled as 'Black nose jobs' often stems from a desire influenced by these narrow standards, which unfortunately tend to invalidate natural Black features such as broader noses or fuller lips. I recall a friend who underwent rhinoplasty in Turkey, motivated by both personal desire and societal pressure. She shared her healing journey openly, highlighting both the emotional and physical challenges involved. What stood out most was her doctor's remark that her face had 'very nice eyes' and good 'face shape,' yet the nose was singled out as "too big." This reflects the persistent and problematic notion that Black features, including prominent noses, are inherently flawed. This experience underscores why redefining beauty is crucial. It’s about acknowledging that Black features are unique and beautiful, not something needing correction. Social media movements like #BlackFeatures and #BlackBeauty are powerful tools in promoting this narrative, combating anti-Blackness, and questioning the prejudice embedded in 'just preference.' Sharing journeys like these helps break the stigma around cosmetic surgery while reinforcing self-love and acceptance. If considering any alteration, it's important to reflect deeply on whether it is for personal happiness or driven by external pressures shaped by Eurocentric ideals. Ultimately, embracing diversity in beauty standards not only empowers individuals but also fosters greater cultural understanding and appreciation.

Some black people's facial features ARE too large for their face. It is not anti-black to do an ETHNIC plastic surgery. And it is so easy for YOU to criticize because YOU don't have large facial features!!!
