Red, Stripes, & Blue

I recently rocked these adorable red, blue, and white striped nails, and they were such a hit! It's amazing how a simple manicure can make you feel so festive and put-together. Want to try this patriotic-themed manicure yourself? It’s easier than you think, even if you’re not a seasoned nail artist! Here’s how I created my festive look, featuring those classic solid blue, solid red, and white with vertical stripes. First things first, gather your supplies. You'll need a good quality base coat and top coat to ensure your masterpiece lasts. For the colors, definitely grab a vibrant red, a true blue, and a crisp white nail polish. To get those clean, crisp lines for the stripes, I highly recommend investing in a thin striping brush or some nail art tape. A dotting tool can also be handy if you decide to add tiny stars later, but for this specific red, blue, and white striped look, the brush or tape is key. Now, let's get painting! Start by applying a thin layer of your chosen base coat to all your nails. This protects your nails and helps the polish adhere better. Once the base coat is dry, it’s time for color. For my design, I chose to do solid blue on my thumb and pinky fingers, a solid red on my pointer finger, and then created the stunning red, white, and blue stripes on my middle and ring fingers. This mix of solid colors and stripes really makes the design pop! For the striped nails, I first applied two thin coats of white polish as the base and let it dry completely. This is crucial – if it’s not dry, your stripes will smudge! Once the white was perfectly dry, I carefully used my thin striping brush with blue polish to create vertical lines. I usually do about two or three blue stripes, spaced evenly. After those dried for a minute or two, I then added the red vertical stripes in between the blue ones and on the remaining white spaces. If you’re using nail art tape, apply the tape to create the lines you want, paint your color, and then peel the tape off gently before the polish is fully dry to avoid peeling up your base color. The key to perfect red and blue stripes is patience and thin layers! Once all your colors and stripes are completely dry (give it a good 10-15 minutes!), seal your design with a glossy top coat. This not only adds shine but also protects your nail art from chipping, making your patriotic manicure last longer. Don't forget to 'cap' the free edge of your nail with the top coat as well; this extra step really helps prevent chips. Don't be afraid to experiment with your red and blue stripes!
