Advice I’d give my 18 year old self.
My birthday is next month and some major life changes are happening soon! I think this is a good time to reflect on the first half of my 20’s! 🤗
If I knew then at 18 what I know now I would say this:
🍄1. Having a good group of people around you is so very important and even more important as you get older. They will support and also hold you accountable when needed.
🍄2. Say “No” more and set your boundaries. You’ll waste less of your time with that.
🍄3. Other’s opinions on who you are and what you do are not important. It will only cause stress. the more you worry about what others think the more you become distracted.
🍄4. Speak up and ask for what you need. This included knowing when to ask for help.
🍄5. Don’t be shy to talk about 🤑money. It’s not that you’re bad with money, it’s that you need to learn about it and how to properly utilize it.
🍄6. When you’re overwhelmed take a step back and breathe. Things are more clear when you compartmentalize what is in front of you.
🍄7. Men & romantic relationships will always be there. Work more on loving yourself and knowing who you are and about the things you like. The more you know yourself the better “dating” gets.
🍄8. Allow yourself to feel all feelings when experiencing things. Things will not always be okay, but if you allow yourself to feel the good, bad and the in between feelings there so many life lessons that come out of those moments. 😅
🍄9. Therapy isn’t as bad as you thought it was! It’s actually one of the more significant things to utilize in your “personal growth toolbox”.
🍄10. Buy clothing that will last 10+ years and made of good material. It allows you to be responsible in so many ways. Financially & emotionally you hoard less things this way. You will value things more and be intentional about your spending.
🍄11. Your body will change over time it’s normal. Stretch marks, increased body fat and the ability to do things you use to be able to is normal. You don’t “lose value” because of those things.
🍄12. Wear clothes that compliments your body structure. Do not let the clothes wear you. Your body dysmorphia is lying to you.
🍄13. Get your clothes tailored.
🍄14. Making memories are always worth it vs. putting work first. It’s okay to be career driven but just keep in mind you still have to occasionally enjoy each stage of your life.
