Hey fellow parents! As someone who's been cooking for my 7-month-old, I know the struggle and joy of introducing solids. It's such a fun adventure, but also sometimes a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what to feed them next! When my little one turned seven months, I really started getting into experimenting with different baby puree combinations, and it honestly made meal times so much more exciting for both of us. One of the biggest reasons I love making my own purees is knowing exactly what goes into my baby's tummy. Plus, combining different fruits, vegetables, and even some grains or proteins can really boost their nutrient intake and expose them to a wider range of flavors early on. For a 7-month-old, it’s all about exploring textures and tastes, so don't be afraid to get creative! Here are some of my go-to baby puree combinations that my little eater absolutely adores: Sweet Potato & Apple: This is a classic for a reason! The sweetness of the apple perfectly complements the earthy flavor of the sweet potato. I usually steam both, then blend them together with a little breastmilk or formula for extra creaminess. So simple, so nutritious! Pear & Spinach: Sounds a bit unusual, right? But the natural sweetness of the pear really masks the slight bitterness of the spinach, making it a fantastic way to sneak in those greens. It's packed with vitamins and iron! Butternut Squash & Lentils: Once your baby is comfortable with single-ingredient purees, introducing lentils is a great way to add plant-based protein and fiber. Cook the lentils until very soft, then blend them with steamed butternut squash. It’s hearty and satisfying. Broccoli & Zucchini with a hint of Mint: This green combo is surprisingly fresh! Steam the broccoli and zucchini until very tender, then blend with a tiny fresh mint leaf. It adds an unexpected, delightful flavor twist that babies often enjoy. Banana & Avocado: No cooking required for this one! Just mash ripe banana and avocado together. It’s super creamy, full of healthy fats for brain development, and incredibly easy for those busy days. When I’m cooking for my 7-month-old, I usually make a big batch of a few different combinations at the beginning of the week. I then portion them into ice cube trays and freeze them. Once frozen, I pop the cubes out and store them in freezer bags. This way, I have a variety of healthy meals ready to go – just thaw and serve! It’s such a time-saver and reduces food waste. Always remember to introduce new foods one at a time, waiting a few days in between, to watch for any allergic reactions. And consult with your pediatrician about what foods are best for your baby's age and developmental stage. Seeing their happy little faces when they discover a new favorite flavor is truly one of the most rewarding parts of parenthood. Happy pureeing!
