quick clips of my shift as a DSP
I am new to this shift time, but I truly enjoy it, so far and am adjusting well. Should I do a longer video w/voice over, explaining more what I do? #graveyardshift #dsp #emergingcreator #fyp #pinkasthetic
Starting a new shift schedule, especially the night or graveyard shift, can be quite an adjustment. As someone new to working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) during these hours, I’ve found it to be an eye-opening experience. The quiet and calmness of the night create a unique atmosphere that’s very different from day shifts, allowing more one-on-one time with the individuals I support. One of the biggest challenges is adapting my energy levels and sleep patterns. It’s important to establish a consistent routine, such as having a set bedtime and preparing meals ahead of time. I use my breaks to rest briefly and stay hydrated, which helps maintain focus and patience on the overnight shift. Working as a DSP means providing care, support, and companionship to individuals with disabilities during these quieter hours. This includes assisting with daily living activities, monitoring safety, and offering emotional support. I’ve started to appreciate how much more personal the interactions can be during the night when distractions are fewer. I also enjoy capturing quick clips of my shift to share with others because it gives a real glimpse into what the job entails. Some viewers have asked if I plan to make longer videos, possibly with voice-over narration, to explain my duties in more detail. I think that’s a great idea to help people understand the important work DSPs do, especially during less typical working hours. Overall, embracing the night shift as a DSP has given me new perspectives on care work and how vital it is at all hours. For anyone considering this role or shift, I recommend going in with an open mind, a willingness to adapt, and a passion for supporting others. It’s a rewarding experience that offers meaningful connections and opportunities to grow professionally and personally.
