... Read moreStarting your marathon training can feel like a huge commitment, and fitting in those long runs often means embracing the early morning. I know, hitting the snooze button is tempting, but trust me, there's magic in those pre-dawn miles, especially when you're training for a marathon! For me, getting my run in first thing sets the tone for the entire day. There's a peace that comes with running when the world is still waking up – fewer cars, fewer people, just you and the road (or the sandy beach, if you're lucky!). This quiet time helps me clear my head and mentally prepare for the day, which is crucial when you're pushing your limits for a marathon. Plus, during these warmer months, early morning runs are absolutely essential for any *sports to do this summer*, especially running. You beat the intense heat and humidity, making your workout safer and much more enjoyable. Here’s how I’ve made early morning marathon training runs a consistent part of my routine: 1. Prep the Night Before: This is non-negotiable! Lay out your running clothes, including your green sports bra and black headband, charge your headphones, fill your water bottle, and even set out a small, easily digestible pre-run snack like a banana. Having everything ready eliminates any excuses when that alarm goes off. If you’re running near a boardwalk or a new route, make sure you’ve planned it out so you don’t waste time figuring it out in the dark. 2. Hydrate & Fuel (Lightly): Even before you step out, a glass of water is a must. For fuel, a small banana or a piece of toast is usually enough to give you energy without causing stomach upset. Listen to your body and find what works for you. 3. The Power of Consistency: It’s tough at first, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Your body and mind will adapt. I find that on days I manage an early run, my energy levels are higher, and I feel more accomplished, which really helps with marathon training motivation. The consistency also builds endurance more effectively than irregular runs. 4. Embrace the Scenery: One of the biggest perks of early morning runs, especially during summer, is witnessing the sunrise. Running by the ocean or a sandy beach as the sun comes up is incredibly motivating. It reminds you of the beauty around you and makes those challenging miles fly by. Even if it's an overcast sky, the fresh air is invigorating. 5. Listen to Your Body: Marathon training is demanding. While I push for early morning runs, there are days when my body needs more rest. It’s okay to adjust occasionally. The goal is long-term progress, not perfection every single day. Getting out there before dawn might seem daunting, but the benefits for your marathon training – from beating the summer heat to building mental resilience – are immense. What are your best tips for making early morning runs happen?

Half Marathon Training Plan
Last week I ran my first half marathon in almost 2 years!! I had taken a break from longer distances and stuck to 5 and 10Ks for a while since that’s what I enjoy most! But training for this half helped me get motivated to do longer runs and actually ignited a new love for longer (for me) runs!
