Venom Snake
Venom Snake I did in 2022. #mgs #phantompain #metalgear #drawing #gaming
When I first started playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Venom Snake immediately captivated me. He's not just a character; he's a true legend steeped in mystery and complex emotions. I remember spending hours just observing his movements, his stoic gaze, and that iconic phantom horn. It's why I felt compelled to create my own drawing of him back in 2022, trying to capture all those nuances. But let's dive deeper into who Venom Snake really is. Many fans, especially those new to the series or who haven't finished MGSV, often ask, 'Who is Venom Snake?' and 'What was Venom Snake's real name?' Without giving away too many spoilers for those who haven't experienced the brilliant twists of The Phantom Pain, Venom Snake is actually a body double, a medic who underwent extensive plastic surgery and hypnosis to believe he was Big Boss. This reveal completely blew my mind and redefined the character. His 'creation' is central to the game's narrative, a masterstroke by Kojima that explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the nature of heroism. He's not Big Boss, but he carries the legacy and the burden of that name. His personality is fascinatingly complex. While he mostly appears stoic and silent, his actions speak volumes. He's driven by revenge, loyalty to his comrades, and a strong sense of duty. You can see the internal struggle, the weight of his past, and the horrors he's witnessed etched on his face. Is he 'evil'? Not in the traditional sense, but he's certainly capable of ruthless acts for what he believes is right. Some of his 'quotes' or lack thereof, contribute to his enigmatic aura. He often lets Ocelot or Miller do the talking, making his few spoken words even more impactful. It's this deep, almost psychological portrayal that makes him one of my favorite video game characters. And then there's his appearance. It’s instantly recognizable! From his bionic arm to his distinct facial scars and that shrapnel 'horn' protruding from his forehead – every detail tells a story. I specifically wanted to get his 'venom snake skin' right in my drawing, capturing the texture and battle-worn look. He’s often seen in an 'olive drab' combat suit, practical yet iconic. His 'walk' and 'pose' are also very characteristic – a heavy, determined stride, often with a slight limp, reflecting his injuries and the burdens he carries. Capturing that 'venom snake walking' stance was a challenge, but essential for conveying his presence. Every element of his design contributes to his legend, making him a truly unforgettable figure in gaming history. Drawing him was my way of paying tribute to this incredible character and the world of Metal Gear Solid.
