I often think about how to convey a sense of 'gameplay' excitement, ensuring that even a static image tells a part of the thrilling 'tales of mecha.' For instance, I try to use strong diagonal lines and foreshortening to make a punch or a kick feel like it's exploding off the page, really drawing your eye into the action. It's about capturing that split-second decision or powerful impact. Sometimes, I even draw inspiration from tactical games; thinking about the 'origins' of a commando's strategic movement can inform how a mecha might flank an enemy or execute a complex maneuver, making the fight scenes feel more grounded and believable. One thing I've learned that really adds depth to mecha designs and stories is embracing the idea of wear and tear, or even a 'malfunction.' You know how in some robot anime, when a unit starts sparking or a joint gets jammed, it just ratchets up the tension and makes the stakes feel so much higher? I love incorporating little details like scratched armor, exhaust fumes, or even a dented panel, because it makes the mecha feel more real and vulnerable. I find it incredibly helpful to break down complex movements into simple shapes first, focusing on the silhouette and overall flow before diving into the intricate details of armor plates and weaponry. This foundational approach helps ensure the action reads clearly, even when conveying intense moments. Creating a compelling comic series, especially one with mecha, is a journey of constant learning and refining. From capturing the dramatic essence of a battle to crafting a rich 'tale of mecha' that keeps readers hooked volume after volume, every design choice matters.
