235lbs on bench press 1st attempt
Wow, what a day at the gym! I can't believe I finally hit 235lbs on my bench press for the first time. The feeling of getting that bar up on my first attempt was absolutely incredible. I’ve been working towards this goal for what feels like ages, and seeing it finally happen is such a huge motivator. It truly shows that consistent effort pays off. My journey to 235lbs definitely wasn't linear. There were weeks where I felt stuck, hitting plateaus at 215lbs or 225lbs, and it got pretty frustrating. I remember countless sessions where I’d load up the bar, take a deep breath, and just couldn't push through that sticking point. What really helped me break through was focusing on a few key things. First, I really drilled down on my form. I watched so many videos and even got a coach to spot me and correct little things I was doing wrong, like my elbow flare or not engaging my lats enough. Proper bracing, keeping my shoulders back and down, and using strong leg drive turned out to be absolute game-changers. It’s amazing how much a solid foundation can improve your lift! Beyond form, consistency in my training was paramount. Skipping workouts was a no-go, and I made sure to incorporate accessory exercises that strengthen my triceps, shoulders, and chest from different angles. Dips, close-grip bench, incline dumbbell press, and overhead presses became staples in my routine, really targeting those supporting muscles. And honestly, recovery is just as important as the lift itself. Getting enough sleep (aiming for 7-8 hours nightly) and fueling my body with good nutrition made a noticeable difference in my strength and endurance. I focused on a balanced intake of protein, carbs, and healthy fats. I also started deloading every few weeks to let my body fully recover, which prevented burnout and injury and allowed me to come back stronger. Another huge factor was my mindset. There were days I felt weak or unmotivated, but reminding myself of my goal and visualizing the successful lift really helped. Staying positive and celebrating small wins, even increasing by 5lbs, kept me going. Having a consistent workout partner who pushes you can also make a world of difference! Now that 235lbs is in the bag, my sights are firmly set on 275lbs! It feels like a big jump, but I'm ready for the challenge. My plan involves continuing with progressive overload, gradually increasing the weight or reps, and maybe even trying some specific rep schemes like 5x5 or pyramid sets. I’m also thinking about incorporating some paused reps to really build strength off the chest, and perhaps some band work for accommodating resistance. I know it won't be easy, and there will probably be more plateaus, but that's part of the fun, right? It's all about pushing your limits and celebrating every small victory along the way. If you’re also chasing a big bench goal, don’t give up! Keep practicing, focusing on your form, eating well, and getting enough rest. Every rep counts, and every session brings you closer to your next personal record!
