... Read moreHey fellow fantasy fanatics! You know that feeling when you just need to dive deep into a world of magic, monsters, and compelling characters? That's exactly why I put together my list of all-time favorite fantasy shows, and I wanted to add a bit more detail, especially for those of you curious about the magical systems and what truly makes these series stand out. Let's talk magic! If you're like me and were drawn to shows like 'Legacies' because of the incredible powers wielded by characters like Hope Mikaelson, you're in for a treat with many of these. 'Legacies,' a brilliant spin-off from 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'The Originals,' truly shines with its exploration of supernatural abilities. Hope, as a tribrid, has access to a vast array of spells, from powerful offensive magic to intricate defensive enchantments. The show does a fantastic job of integrating witchcraft, vampirism, and werewolf lore into a cohesive, action-packed narrative. It's not just about flashy spells; it's about the consequences and the moral dilemmas that come with such immense power, making each magical confrontation feel truly significant. Speaking of magic, 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' offers a much darker, more ancient form of witchcraft. Unlike the often benevolent or morally grey magic users in the Mikaelson universe, Sabrina's journey often involves pacts, rituals, and confronting truly demonic forces. It’s a fascinating contrast, exploring themes of free will versus destiny within a rich, gothic setting. The visual effects for the spells and dark rituals are just stunning, making you feel immersed in her world. Then there’s 'The Witcher,' which presents magic in a grittier, more dangerous light. Geralt's 'Signs' are more akin to quick, elemental bursts of power, complementing his sword fighting rather than replacing it. Sorceresses like Yennefer wield more complex, destructive magic, often at great personal cost. The magic here feels raw and untamed, a force of nature that can be both incredibly potent and incredibly perilous, adding another layer to the already fantastic monster-hunting adventures. The creatures and mythos are just incredible, drawing you into a truly unique fantasy landscape. Even 'Black Lightning' brings its own brand of 'magic' with metahuman powers that often feel supernatural. Jefferson Pierce's ability to manipulate electricity isn't just a superpower; it's a force he has to control, one that impacts his family and community. It adds a unique, modern twist to the fantasy genre, blending superheroics with social commentary. And who can forget 'Supernatural'? With 15 seasons, this show has built an expansive lore covering everything from angels, demons, ghosts, and pagan gods to powerful ancient artifacts and complex spellwork. The Winchesters often rely on obscure lore, sigils, and incantations to battle evil, showcasing a magic system that is deeply rooted in mythology and often requires sacrifice and knowledge. If you want a fantasy series that truly has it all in terms of creatures and magic, and a story that evolves over years, this is it. So, if you’re searching for your next fantasy obsession, whether you're into intricate magic systems, epic monster hunts, or characters grappling with immense power, these shows truly deliver. Each offers a unique flavor of fantasy, promising hours of immersive entertainment on Netflix and beyond. Happy bingeing!

I stopped watching Black Lightening once China Anne McClain left the show. I felt like it was good until then. Legacies was good until they started singing😭 and they started to drag it during the last season. It started to become kiddish. I loved the Originals tho!
